If I have a dream and I try to turn on a light in it they never work, or they only have the slightest glow which means I can't see anything which really pisses me off in my dreams...
This has happened in my dreams since I was little, only then it was more scary that annoying coz as a kid I was afraid of the dark (especially when there is lightning, which happened in a dream when I was little and none of the lights would go on and I couldn't get to my parents room :( )...
And in my dreams all the other lights are on except the ones I try and turn on...
Anyone have any ideas why?? or what it means?? or has the same thing happened to you??

    Peace, Holly

this is that force opposition thing
the physics of dream worlds depend more on our subconscous
then on how anything mechanicly works in mundania

instead of trying to turn on a light switch
just sort of wonder what where you are would look like
if there were enough light everywhere to see just fine.

think of everything as being psionicly 'controled'
(although controled isn't maybe the right word for it)
including your possition in time and space in them

somehow in mine mechanical things usualy work just fine
but that is because i'm allowing them to do so on their own
rather then trying to force them to

"where there's a whip there's a way" is one of those
absurd social notions that have nothing to do with how
anything other then human society actualy works,
(and it only 'works' there for reasons having to do with
gullability being the 'siamese twin' of gragariousness),
    least of all the dreamspace.

    Good morning hippy_holly

I loved the answer you got from themnax, and just wanted to throw another thought in.

Searching for the light, wanting to see is about the spiritual connection inside you seek to reinforce, to better trust into what you feel is your path even in the darkest darkness and most blinding distractions.

I had ladder dreams for many years where pieces of the ladders, or stairs were missing ... and one night I found the ladder complete and enjoyed so that I could climb up and down and up again. This was my last ladder dream and it was like a missed thread was repaired and healed and a lesson completed as well.

The darkness is your womb so to speak and for now it feeds you as much as you are drawn to it and return.

Be aware of whatever is actually working in your waking life and makes you feel light and easy, and do not fear to be scared, and walk in agreement with your own self. The frustration might get you closer to what you feel you really want even as life offers you the switches of change, sometimes with just a twinkle in its eye.

Imagine in truth you are a being of light yourself and just exploring darkness, nothing less. This is not confined to dreams alone. And you do it just your own way, to see and know who you are in the mirrors of life, dreams and the greater dream of becoming who you are.

    Hope this helps !

also, if you're into lucid dreaming, that can be a great way for you to realize you're dreaming.the lightswitch thing is actually very common, as are the numbers on a digital clock, they're hard to make out.

Thanks everyone for the words of wisdom :p
It's never a thing of me not being able to find the light in my dreams, it just doesn't glow bright enough when I turn it on, like I'll walk into the bathroom to do my hair but I couldn't see well enough and since I'm kind of a stubborn person I'd get really frustrated, but then if I turned the light off for a while and then turn it back on it would glow a bit brighter... but still not enough, although it probably would have been if I just relaxed, but I never do... ahh well :)

that probably happens so you will get over your fear, nothing's gonna happen to you, unless your walking and fall into a hole or something

I can't usually just 'play around' in my dreams... well not in the past, but lately I've noticed I've had a bit more say in what I do in my dreams... which is good :)

mobility in the dream world is a matter of exercise and practice just as many things are when we are awaike.

but it is also good not to take too much control of everythig that goes on in them because that way you're likely to miss whatever lessons or knowledge they might otherwise impart.

i can make the numbers on a digital readout readable in my dreams by concentrating without forcing on it in a certain way, but then the resault is usualy just the numbers i'm putting there so that becomes kind of meaningless to do so.

it is true that i don't spend a lot of time reading documents or displays in my dreams, but words on printed signs are occsionaly quite readable.

interesting thought though. there isn't anywhere near the ammount of signage in my dreams as there is in my waking life. no kinds of advertising signage, like in capitolist countries or slogans and political immages like we used to see pictures of in the old communist countries. more like the shapes and texturs of things tend to be their own decoration, as they could be in our waking world if there wasn't this kind of force of social uniformity and things like how i feel the idea of building codes is so more often then not missapplied in it.

usualy things that have lables in waking life, everyone in my dreams, including myself, already knows how things work and don't usualy need controls or indicators to be labled.

though somethimes there are complex panels and arrays where this is the exception. but this is the exception.

and i can't say as i'd really thought about or so much noticed or realized that last before now that you mention it.

of course i do a lot of walking in my dreams and my 'legs' almost never get tired in them. but also i ride trains and things and usualy don't remember getting on or off of them and there are never any tickets to buy or even any concept of buying and selling or any kind of economic concepts in them at all either.

i do remember one time watching a freight train go by with all the different 'company' names on the different freight cars only the're was this same kind of effect as mentioned with the numbers on a digital clock sort of thing.

but i remember that is being sort of unusaual at the time.

also clocks are another sort of thing that there very seldom are in my dreams, nor concern with time in the sense of schedules or anything like having or needing or wanting to be in a place at any particular 'time'.

time is mostly a non concept in them other then in the natural sense of passage of time/entropy and that sometimes it is night time and sometimes, more often, it is daylight.

I can never move properly in my dreams, I can never run properly, yet I always seem to get where im going or get away from whatevers chasing me. I also have dreams where im swimming in a race (coz I have been swimming competitively for 8 years in the real world) but one of my arms wont work properly, i get so frustrated...

I dont think ive ever had signs or anything like that in my dreams (clocks too), atleast none that were important, most of my dreams involve natural disasters (well the 'nightmares' anyway) or things that happen in nature/outside...
