I've smoked salvia extract once. Was quite extroardinary. Closed my eyes when the "tunnel" started spinning and what I remember is that there were a whole bunch of doors, maybe a hallway, but because of the spinning "tunnel" feeling they were going around and it was hard to see clearly. That was right after the initial "blast off" and I was sitting on the couch. Layed down and had a lot of really fast visuals, didn't retain anything else except those initial visions. I'm definitely looking forward to my next experience. Until then however, I have some dried leaves. I've just been rolling them into joints and smoking them like that. I know most people say they don't do anything like that, but I quite like it. Gives me the "at home at last" feeling I get when I do mushrooms. Very relaxing. Thoughts wander a lot more though it's hard to concentrate sometimes. I have some problems meditating but I think I'm making progress and I hope practicing meditation will help me get the most out of my salvia experiences. A reacurring feeling I have when I smoke it that way: I do it in my backyard, and I get mildly that tunnel feeling, but so mildly that nothing actually spins. It feels like the whole ground I'm standing on is a page in a book, and that page is slowly getting turned, although it never does. I've also tried adding a few leaves to some chai tea and after a few cups I layed in bed kind of meditation a bit, and distinctly remember feeling the presence of someone or something (alive) at the end of my bed. Anyway, if anyone more experienced with salvia has any comments or advice for me it would be greatly appreciated.
Oh yes, my question. Just wondering if anyone knows just how the smoke compares to other smoke (cigarette)? Seems very very very thick comparitively. I'm assuming it's a lot worse for your lungs and thinking I should maybe cut down on the amount I'm smoking it. If anyone knows just how bad it is for you it'd be great to know (not sure about carcinogens and such).
Salvia smoke is more harsh than a cig from what ive read, it didnt hurt my throat anymore than a cig would when I did it. I did 20x extract, maybe the leaves are harsher? You dont smoke salvia like you would a cig, you dont smoke one after another. SOme people smoke a pack of cigs a day. I wouldnt worry about it too much honestly. There are a lot worse things to be inhaling.
The smoke from salvia divinorum is approximately comparable to that of tobacco and marijuana. All of these (and I'm sure many more) produce a smoke that is about equally as damaging to the lungs (although the 60+ unique cannabinoids found in marijuana act to prevent cancer, bronchitis, multiple sclerosis, and other diseases). Tobacco smoke is stickier than all of them, however, so it "sticks" to objects in a house and lingers for up to a week. All in all, if you are smoking salvia for a slight effect, you shoudln't have much problem, although if you are getting a slight effect from a whole joint, then you are wasting about 9/10ths of your salvia. =P Salvia, when smoked using a standard lighter, rolled into a joint, produces almost no effects. You could get those same subtle effects if you properly smoked about a pinch of salvia (virtually nothing). Perhaps just get a small pocket-pipe for it? If you don't smoke anything but salvia in there, even if authorities search you and find it, they won't be able to do anything (hopefully). =)
i have been meaning to get a small pipe and a good lighter but just haven't gotten around to it yet. thanks a lot for the comments!
as for meditation relaxation is as important as concentration I reccommend following the breath and holding concentration on the tip of the nose. during the in breath go "innnnn...." during the out breath go "outttt...." if the mind wanders just note it lightly and return without any self reproach. go for stretches of 20 minutes to 45 minutes. if you have to scratch "scratching...." then "resuming.." if you want to move quickly into meditative state from a non meditative state, take the physical posture and resonate with it as a refuge: "sitting.... sitting.... " to relax is as important as to concentrate
Yes ~ the proper way to smoke is with an extremely hot flame applied during the entire toke. Because of the heat necesary, a water-pipe is best. Traditional use gives a gentler, longer, and more stable and memorable experience. That involves 10 - 20 leaves rolled into a small cigar shape and very slowly chewed without swallowing so that the salvinorum is absorbed through the mouth. About 2 hrs
ya, i've tried chewing it but i couldn't handle it. almost threw up after a minute and didn't even have much.
