I was picking my daughter up from hockey tonight so I had the radio on in the car and there was a blurb about a new service called rent a friend.

This really exists where you can put in your requirements for a friend and get matches and then rent them to do activities with you.

So if you want a scrap-booking buddy, shopping buddy, movie buddy you can find one for a fee that they decide.

Anyone ever hear of anyone who did this?

 

We call those escort services around here, you can have with sex with them too.
I wonder if you can purchase insurance to cover any incurred damages during your rental period?

I don't feel like drinking by myself, all my friends have to work, I'll just rent a friend for awhile and tell him all my drunken problems. Then I'll have him take photos of me naked and hold my hair while I puke and tell me stories until I pass out. Rent a friend could be fun, none of my other friends would ever do any of that

 

Many years ago there was a business called 'Rent a Kid' in the U.S. where one could hire a kid to do yard work and such. It was run by a kid about 12 years old. Drug dealers took over the business and used it as a front and eventually the whole thing got busted by law enforcement. The kid was so naive he didn't realize where all the money was really coming from.

I think this is one of those things the Japanese started. They usually lead the way on stuff like that. Maybe if one rents a friend for some cosplay then it's like double-Japanese!
