what would you say the song comfortably numb is a about? what do the lyrics mean to you? my sister's husband says he hates pink floyd he says he dosn't like that hippy shit and dosn't think his songs make any sence
ok.. 1st.. Pink Floyd is a Band.. not a "him"... 2nd.. he's partitially right.. Syd Barrett Floyd really was just a bunch of music made while Barrett did acid for weeks straight... I wouldn't say it's all "happy" music either.. overall The Wall soundtrack is depressing.. and so is the movie.. which "comfortably numb" is on... the song is about being desensitized from being famous.. and loathing it... "Comfortably Numb" in my opinion means you don't feel a thing at all.. emotionally.. drugged or not.. and you are ok or at least deal with it
Waters and Gilmour wrote Comfortably Numb. Though I couldn't tell if you were saying the Wall was Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd or not. I always tool the lyrics to be about being so alienated and emotionally numb for so long that you just get used to it.
The Wall is Roger Waters dissociation with his fans.. previously while on tour with Animals , Roger spat in the face of a fan.. later creating The Wall facing his own demons- though other rock stars tragic down spirals were also addapted into the movie.. and one could say Syd Barrett there is no argument there.. really
without commenting on Comfortably Numb, tell your brother in law to listen to Time and see if he still thinks Pink Floyd lyrics don't make any sense
Who the hell's this guy they call Bob Cock? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqwvNmG651Q"]YouTube - Primus- Have a Cigar Video
he is the typ of person where he is right and everyone is wrong. He needs sit in a dark room burn some candles and be high as a kite and really take the time to listen and really think about the words mean. before he says other wises
That's always been my interpretation, too. Partly, because I listened to that song a lot when I used to shoot up smack back in the day. I always liked that feeling of being comfortably numb. I can relate to it very well. By the way, the guitar solos in "Comfortably Numb" are highly underrated. I don't think people appreciate them as much as I do. Then again, I do and love things that most people wouldn't appreciate in the first place. Hm. It's a toss up, I suppose.
I've been rekindling my love for the earlier Pink Floyd albums. Go back and listen to The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets. I think that A Saucerful of Secrets is my favourite Pink Floyd album.
Hmmm, I heard it was about a show Waters was at. He was really sick and didn't think he could go on, so a doc shot him up with a bunch of pain meds. I love the song and really wish it was about more than just that
The song is partly based on a real experience Roger had during the tour for Wish You Were Here when he came down with hepatitis and was horribly sick. They had a doctor come in and shoot him full of something to be able to get on stage. He said the experience was terrible and it felt like his bass was going to pull him over the entire show.
I think it has multiple meanings and levels. Mainly, however, I think it is about that "Pink" (the character in the story) is shot up with a drug cocktail to temporarily drown out his extreme mental pain and anguish (and to a lesser extent, IMO, his physical feeling of being ill), so that he can get up on stage and perform. It's also one of my favorite Floyd songs (maybe very favorite). And I agree with i_need_a_miracle that Gilmore's guitar is rather excellent in that song. (Actually, I have always believed that Gilmore brought quite a lot to the band - there are those that argue he "bought" his way into the band - and there is truth in that - but those arguing that point often overlook that, even as that may be, Gilmore wasn't just a hollow "member" of the band - but a highly contributing member. I'd have to say Comfortably Numb is definitely one of my favorites, but my favorite is Time. Ohhh I love that song. lol
