Ok...I need some help please? I have no intentions of combing out... So it's my first day in...(backcombing)..and I'm really not digging it. I know it's gonna get better...I know my hair will settle down, but I just can't seem to get over it. I've never been self conscience (sp) and all of a sudden I really can't get over how puffy it is. I guess I just needed to get that off my chest. It's really bothering me. It always settles down right? I mean...I'm not gonna be that one in a million? Also Dr. Bronners seems to leave my hair quite greasy. I'm using the bar...because it seemed easier. I was considering trying baking soda again, but when I tried it over the summer it left my hair greasier than Dr. Bronners. Thankyou for reading
errrrrm, wait 6 months? A lot of people on here have complained about bronners grease, it seems it may be related to hard water, just use whatever the hell you like as long as it isn't full of conditioner. If it's earl days dreads you may want to try something harsh to dry your hair out like dish soap or bar soap. A lot of people on here have taken to washing with just water.
I actually way less self concious then I ever was before over time. I wasn't bad at the start in the first place, but even still, I got way better.
:iagree: it's hard to deal with the puff, but it will settle down. just enjoy it, b/c soon you'll miss the early stages.
oh, and with bronner, the bar may not be the best idea. is you scalp doing ok with it? if so you could try the liquid bronners and dilute it 12:1 and rinse really well. i don't have the greasey feeling that others complain of. but, be careful about switching shampoos to something that may dry your hair, b/c you may get a dry scalp too.
if you're worried about your hair being all poofy and everything, try wearing a beanie or(depending on where you live) a hoodie with the hood up. even just wearing a hat for an hour or two will help tame your hair a little bit
Second. My dreads are über short (I think early starts turn out better). Without my trusty hat, I would look truly ridiculous, all the time.
don't keep them covered all the time or they won't be able to move around and lock up more. just be proud, you don't have to hide!
this, just wear a hat for an hour or two. it will tame it for at least a few hours after that, if not for the whole day. But i agree with the second part the most. just deal with there being chaos on top of your head for a few months, any negative comments will help build character and your resolve to have some sick dreads in a year or two.
yeah, wait for a while and see how your dreads get. i walked around with my hair like a birds nest for months and month and months. sometimes i would get a little self conscious, but for the most part i rocked the nest with pride. get used to it. people like to look a little longer at people with dreadies.
They will get better, I was paranoid that mine would turn out shit too when they were young but now they're sick.
