    Lolwut?

I liked 1984, but if you can't handle it, don't read Orwell.

Richard Scarry's stuff might be more at your level.

Perhaps some indication of what it is you dislike about 1984 would help people know how to suggest what you might prefer.

I like the book. If you don't like that, then I don't know what to suggest.

I'm reading Orwells essays right now and they are also very good.

I couldn't get past the first page. Such dry prose.

You haven't given us any clue what you are looking for though.

Huxley's other great work: Island, is certainly worth a read too, I suspect it'll go down particularly well with the crowd here ^^

I rather like 1984, and Animal Farm is not bad.

I'm tempted to throw in Catch-22 too, but I'm not sure it's quite in the same sort of topic area...

Do you have a preferance? Or do we just suggest random books we liked? I liked Welcome to the monkey house. the time machine, love and fireworks.

1984 is about an alternate reality in 1984, where the government controls absolutely everything. I'm a little hazy on the specifics as I haven't read it in a while, but it was a pretty good read. As for the OP, if you're looking for the same kind of thing but more readable, I'd recommend Fahrenheit 451.

    Best dystopian novel ever.

Too bad so much of it came true.
