Does anyone just camp to get back to nature anymore?

Is there anyone left out there who goes to the woods to camp without bringing the ipod, cell phone, power cords, hair dryer etc. I grew up camping where if you wanted to bathe you buck up get naked and use the lake or river. Not go to the shower facility on site. Camping is not somewhere you go in the city to sleep on the ground. It is more to learn how to get that fire going, finding wood, using branches to dry your clothes after you swim, sit nude by the fire until clothes dry.

Yeah, I love to actually CAMP! Campgrounds just really are not my thing. I love the smell and the crackling sounds of the open fire. Hot dogs are the best when cooked that way, as well as other goodies.

However, I can't say that I have ever took a shower in a pond or anything, but I do have a solar shower I have used many times. Even used it when I was practically living out of a storage shed in FL.

As far as music and all, since it is all in my van, I sure do enjoy my quiet times out in the woods. With out all the distractions, when it is that quiet and dark you can feel and hear your own body like never before. You won't find 2 dogs in a Campground or a Walmart parking lot, and there is good reason for that.

I sure wish I had spent more times just gazing up at the stars and watching the sun sets and sun rises instead of conforming to society and working practically 24/7 for the past nearly 20 years.

    CAMP ON!

I love camping. I bring my cell phone for emergencies but I do not text and crap or talk on the phone. But yeah I just bring the tent clothes some dry food. Go fishing catch a few fish start a charcoal fire and eat up. I do usually jump in the lake when I go camping but it's just for fun not to get clean. I really do not think about that when I am out camping.

but yeah when I go camping I do not even kick it at the campsite at all. I use the tent for sleeping and then during the day drive somewhere and hike deep into nature all day.

plus I love the outdoors. just for 1 night with friends we went to some trail set up a blanket and just smoked a bunch of weed and layed on the blanket and crashed haha.

For me even when I was a teen camping at a campground which had all the amenities I tried to make it as primitive as possible. If there was water I was always skinnydipping I loved it. Not saying camping should be like Man v. Wild where we eat bugs lol but just camp in seclusion from people so you can be free. I also dont mean so you can smoke up get stoned, not all stoners are campers and not all campers are stoners.

If I go camping, which used to be a lot, we'd always go without anything we didn't need. We'd take a phone, but would leave it in the bag and not be on it constantly. I camp to get away from everything, and it's really nice to do it that way. Reminds you that you don't need a lot of modern technology, especially not 25/7.

I am with you typsy I do find it funny when I am in a tent roughing it to the core only 75 feet from a rv with all the home comforts, why bother with that? lol As much wilderness as there is near where I live now the winter makes it not able to camp much so kind of a bummer.

I used to go winter camping in the mountains, as long as you're wrapped up warm it can be fun. Very different to summer though.

Here in NV and CA they often more than anything will shut down certain camping areas from late september to either march or may so you dont have a choice if you want to camp or not. The last time I went few months ago it was moderately secluded but I chose a spot that was surrounded by trees or shrubs about 85% of it just one small area open in view of the vault toilet so I had no worries being in view of people when I was changing clothes etc.

Last couple of times I went camping in state parks, it was ruined by folks playing loud music. We once had a couple of drunks come into the campsite trying to get friendly with my daughters, nearly had to get the rangers to make them leave (my wife wouldn't let me shoot them).

A few years ago we were on federal lands and didn't see a soul for two days, which was nice. For some reason this family decides to camp within 200 feet of us on our third day. Mind you we were on probably several thousands of acres of federal land and being late summer there was really no one around.

Since we were "neighbors’" now, this entitled them to wander over to our campsite a couple times a day to visit and basically pester us. They had brought a couple ATV’s with them that their teenage boys rode all day, or seemed like it.

The wife tried borrowing egg’s, flour, sugar etc from my wife, that lasted a short while when my wife told them to get their own foodstuffs from town, which was about a 45 minute drive.

My wife and I came to our campsite from a day fishing trip, to find our woodpile a bit smaller. The “neighbors” thought some other camper had left the wood from a prior visit, because it wasn’t sitting right next to our tent. The woodpile was about 50 feet from our campsite, I had cut the wood from a fallen tree and only grabbed what I needed for bonfires.

By about the sixth day, we’d had enough, we pulled up stakes and moved about a half-mile or so down the road and actually found a much better campsite.

After that we enjoyed the rest of our two-week vacation in peace and quiet.

As a rule, we do not bring anything electronic camping other than a camera, watch, GPS unit and a small portable am/fm radio to listen to the evening news (if we can get reception).

We don't tend to go to the big shared camping sites. I prefer being alone.

I do too typsy, if I have to go to a campground I find the most secluded spot from people so that there at least 5 spots between me and them. So if they choose to come into my area what they walk upon is their own fault I refuse to cater to them if I am sunbathing tough for them don't walk in my area you know.

Yeah if you are young and in shape or older and still got a lot of gas in the tank then go backpacking. Hike real deep into the forest and set up a tent. Make sure you remember certain land marks on the way in so you do not get lost.

I have very good visual memory so I never got lost hiking in the forest off trail but some people easily forget. It is fun to feel like a wild man. I am hoping this summer to do a long backpacking trip with a friend deep into the mountains.

The only thing you have to know if you like backpacking is bear safety. If you are stupid with your food and your that deep out you can expect to confront one eventually. remember bears are super fast do not think you can out run one.

if you wanna know how to defend yourself against a bear learn how to use a spear correctly. if you can remain calm and focused during the situation and have some athletic ability it is not that hard to take out a bear with a spear. you have to know what you are doing though. of course hopefully a fight never happens but if it does you wanna be the one killing the bear haha. if I ever killed a bear though I would make sure to skin it and keep it's fur and head.

man vs wild is a really stupid show. I really dislike that show. living in the wild is nothing like that show. I mean if suddenly you were droppped in the middle of nowhere with no supplies then yeah it would be tough. but if you go live in the wild and have your backpack n crap with stuff to start a fire and a water purification thingy then it's very easy.

camping with a camper/motorhome/trailer is not really camping in my opinion. that is just using a portable home and taking this portable home in nature. real camping is using a tent. if you are old yeah I can see why you use a camper but if you are young just use a tent. you can buy special pads so you do not sleep on the hard ground.

Yeah when camping at sites with lots of people you never know who is gonna be there.

-some punk kids taking a vacation and just drinking and getting messed up and causing problems.

-loud music people/loud barking annoying dog/camper with loud annoying genorator

    - then you have people who try to get friendly with everyone. and some people just wanna be left alone and do their own thing. and then you have paranoid people who if you do not get friendly with them then they think you are weird or something. then you have people who if you are friendly to them they freak out and get angry even if you do not bug them and were only friendly once. -just typing out all the different scenarios

-Then you have creepy people. like people who wander around the camp site at 11:30 at night walking like within 5feet of other people's tents on other people's camping area. digging in the ground with a shovel near all these tents. it's like wtf is that guy doing. this really happened. he even looked in the window of some old people's camper. we were getting ready to confront him and be like wtf are you doing dude but we were staying there a couple more nights and wanted to stay low key.

-that's all the ones I Can think of for now

-so yeah sometimes it is chill to camp at campsites because you have bathrooms and sometimes general stores and sometimes showers but it is a lot more fun to say screw the campsite and just find a nice outdoor location to set up your tent. taking a crap and pee in the bushes is not that bad. just bring some toilet paper with you and hand sanitizer.

I believe in camping original. When I go camping in the woods I do it totally natural,I do not take clothes,I do not take shoes, only a sleeping bag and food.I go camping totally in the nude,so I have no clothes to wash or wear,no shoes or flip flops so I can feel the earth beneath my barefeet, and that means less chance of smelly feet or fungus,no towels or soap, all natural,I lovee being vulnerable in nature and totally part of her, hence ...I go totally naked for my entire camping excursion
