Green Day, in my opinion, used to be one of the greatest bands of this time. but then they released American Idiot. their music is just made to sell records. the drums are no longer insane, the singing is slow and dull. why did they do it? what happened to the green day that released dookie or nimrod? why does every band i like sell out?
dont be stupid........ they sold out way before american idiot. you were still in diapers when dookie was released. I guess that explains it. you werent old enough to remember how saturated the airwaves and tv was with green day. they sold out then.
it's not so bad, bands change in order to keep creative, and going commercial is'nt a sin if it still sounds good, that song is starting to grow on me a little, but i'd rather hear zeppelin! lol
Id like to know how all of a sudden they went commercial?? are you people nuts?? theyve been mainstream/commerical since 1994! get real!
yes you should, do you really think because you read one of my posts you know everything about me? were you trying to be funny? why post on the thread just to say you're don't want to post on the thread...
well, their songs on the radio... american idiot and that boulevard song... those songs suck... but the songs on their album are pretty good
as someone else mentioned, Green Day "sold out" in '94 (and no, I was not 'in diapers' during that time...) but still maintained the ability to produce decent music. i don't think that selling out is the case here, i think they just created an album that sucks. every great band has at least one album that just sounds like shit. so don't give up on Green Day just yet, they sold out long ago and still had groovy tunes--maybe the next album will kick ass!
i hope so, i suppose that's a good way of looking at it. i just hope that their drums will kick arse once again (yes i know they're not the best drums ever but i like them)
it's a manic world! lol. blindhobosam mentioned about every band selling out, which to me is going commercial. i was'nt neccesarily focusing on greenday with that part of my reply, fact i did'nt pay much attention to their music back then, but my point was that alot of good bands sell out, and still sound good. maybe not as good as their old stuff, metalica is a good example. i like their old shool music, but i don't mind listening to their new stuff, i would'nt buy it, but their is alot of people who did and will, so even though it's commercial, it's good to somebody. ~peace~
I am suprised at you people... I don't understandm how you people don't like Green day but, you are talking about how they sol;d out and shit when American Idiot is the first album that they actually meant and really cared about. It is probaly one of the first rock-operas released in a long time and i think you peoples should do some homework on what your talking about. (I do think their other albums sounded better though)
i don't think they suck, i kinda like em. i think their drummer kicks ass. they have a pretty good sound, it's upbeat and fun.
i am a former obsessed green day fan. whew, i said it, i admit it. i never thought id be posting on a message board about green day again but here goes... i dont think american idiot is the first album they meant and cared about, i think each album was meant, and represented a different time in their lives. all the old lookout stuff they wrote when they were 18 was about girls and smoking weed. dookie was the teenage loser album that everyone rocked out to, then they got married, had kids, got divorced, got married again, had more kids, and you can see that in insomniac and nimrod. warning sort of had hints of going the more political commentary route but i was pretty surprised and delighted with the lyrical content of american idiot. i must say though, i dont think the music isnt all that special compared to the other albums. and as for the punk/sellout argument, who the fuck cares? theyre not Led Zeppelin, but they still rock live.
GD Sold out a long time ago. Take one part punk image and one part corperate whoring and a pinch of clever lyrics and power chords and TADA
