I've been studying the Civil War and I am currently reading volume 2 of Shelby Foote's Civil War narative. He talks about civilian life during the war in a couple of places and it caught my attention.
Does anyone know of any non fiction books that deal primarily with the non military history of that time period?

You should be able to Google it, but you'll find vast differences between races and socio-economic classes. Might take several books.

Did you know that Mrs. Abraham Lincoln had three brothers who died fighting for the South?

That's interesting, I knew things like that happened, but I didn't know it was the case with Mrs Lincoln.

Books on the south I think would be more interesting. As the war progressed to the Union's favor and the Union's blockade took greater hold supply of goods became scare and rampant inflation took hold of the confederate currency.

I agree, reading about the south from a civilian viewpoint would be very interesting. I found a very good website last night while doing some searches. It can be found at civilwarhome.com lots of good information and links to other sites.
