It'll stand- perhaps grow legs if we aren't already gearing up to take action against Iran. Wait and see- the industrial/military complex isn't just going to sit on its hands... too much money to be made with any conflict... war is big biz.

With military psy-ops embedded in practically every American news organization, we all need to be very careful about what information we are absorbing from whatever news outlet... you know these fucks are out to 'manufacture consent'...:biker:

May be it would be better if you just listened to some no-talk music when driving... it;s is way safer and helps to spread positive vibration....In our crazy world simetimes it's better just to concentrate on here and now...

Wonder how 10 unconsious people managed to cause a panic like that? Generally when you get a big pressing crowd like that there is a couple of people that will pass out so that shouldnt have been anything unusual.

If you're going to post a news item, please discuss the news subject, not another news subject. You don't even mention Cambodia in your posted text.

Read the guidelines for posting in this forum.

I first read about this at http://supaswap-news.com/ could not believe how in some countries life appears to be so cheap.

Am I wrong to think like this????

I'm here in Phnom Penh now, and was during the stampede.

I slept through it, but was at Boat festival on Saturday the day before it happened, floating a kids inflatable whale down the Mekong. Good times.

Anyway, the truth to the situation is boat festival is a little like Thanksgiving. It's a time where people give thanks to the Mekong for the rainy season, and about a quarter of the country descends upon Phnom Penh.

What happened, to the best of my knowledge from local barang gossip and news reports, was that there were many thousands of people were standing on a a bridge that was brightly light up for the boat festival. The crowd was too much for the small local police to handle, and when a small fight or scuffle broke out, the police used water hoses for crowd control.

The lighting on the bridge was improperly grounded, and many people got electrocuted when the water conduit was added, after that a stampede broke out, and many more people got hurt from the stampede in a crowded place and several simply jumped off the bridge into the Mekong and got hurt/killed.

That's the best information I've been able to ascertain, and what I presume to be true based on logical assumptions, reading, and local inquiries. To understand what actually happened would require a legitimate inquire in a rather closed nation.

    I don't think it'll happen.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by life appearing to be so cheap there. First off the Government put on what sounds like quite the extravagant festival with live music and boat races, and invites much of the country to take part. Although it sounds like from Lode's post that they may have been a little inconsiderate with their methods of crowd control, and seems to have maybe caused the stampede in the first place. But after the fact the rescue effort had to be pretty intense, and I do know that Australian rescue workers happened to be in Cambodia at the time of the Festival and did a lot of the pulse checking and body picking up. In contrast to what you said I did hear on NPR that the families of the dead in the situation are going to get I think around $1,200, and the injured are going to get 250$. That sort of reparation doesn't happen in America to be honest.

However if you look at the mass panic itself, which is more an example of riot mind, group mind, mass hysteria type sociological reaction, than it is an example of the whole country's morale, ethics, and values. I would think the ratio of people mindless, selfishly trying panicking to get away to those considerate of those around them and providing a helping hand...... is equal all around the world. It's human nature... and I truly don't think any one culture is significantly worse than say even the "modern contemporary" minded United States.

I think the webmaster prefers that that you quote text that relates to the title... :)

It makes things less confusing ya see...

...and an added thank you to Lode for bringing something uniquely first hand about the story. :2thumbsup:
