do you think potentially it's possible to record and emulate a thought? you would be able to record memories, explain things to other people more easily, create art, unify, and maybe even heal some impairments. what could potentially happen? many would probably say it would be horrific to our existence and create huge problems. security would have to be rethought of, as not only people will protect their privacy and fight fascism but how far does a thought go? does it show the subconscious and reflect other information? would someone be able to access other info that originally occupied the author's brain from only one recorded thought? it would make sense for something like art-by-thought to happen. one example this could be done is like a projector so to speak that is visually manipulated by brain chemistry. art, since it's beginning has changed in the sense that what is considered art expands, leaving generations prior to a movement in the dark. spite may form from artists that have always occupied tangibility. art would also dramatically change in the sense that one cannot be completely introverted, or completely extroverted, and they would need a knowledge foundation. or simply enough, art would fill everyone's life since all thought would be valued by everyone. and art as a business would decline how we handle drugs would change enormously, entirely maybe. first, society would epiphanize (why isn't that a word btw?) stigma and understanding, changing political views on drugs entirely. secondly, actual drugs would decline since one can just emulate the feelings. thirdly, recreational use would probably most consist for physical qualities as opposed to psychedelics. and fourthly, psychedelic thinking would probably be adopted into common life in some way, whether it just be understandings or through normal use. stress would also enormously change. presently, stress is swallowed so normally it might just be embedded physically and naturally in us in the near future. the consciousness of thought provided by recording and emulating thought itself can save humans from this. one would be able to distinguish an amount of stress and change his or her individual state of mind whether it be temporarily or permanently. i can probably go on and on about this, but you should join in. what do you think?
I'm definitely never hooking anything up to my head, I'm afraid enough of that toy where you control the ball with your mind
this reminds me of the one batman movie with the riddler and twoface. the riddler created a machine that could connect to people's heads and projected their dreams on a screen. but as with all things, there'd be a huge potential for abuse, especially by the government. people could become immersed in the projected throughts instead of reality. though i think it's something that is amazing and with so much potential for all sorts of arts and education, i don't know if i'd want to live in world where it was possible.
Chuck Pahlaniuk's coolest idea ever was similar to this (though I wouldn't be surprised if it came from someone else first), in his novel Rant, he goes over the idea that in the future we might be able to plug memories into our mind, instead of watching a movie. For instance, someone might record themselves skydiving; and then people could buy the recording of their experience and 'boost' it. In it producers use drugs to enhance the experience when recording =P
Your idea is much more 'complex' I think but this type of thing is already being tested. I'm not sure if I still have the article and I forget what condition it was exactly used for so this post will be vague but some kid lost the ability to move and possibly speak (I forget) They hooked him up to a bunch of electrodes that connected to a machine with this screen which he could move a cursor on by simply willing/thinking where he wanted it to go. It definitely will be interesting to see how this type of technology progressess if I'm still alive to see it.
technologically augmented psionics will happen. yes. other worlds on which i have lived previous lives had it. but earth is a long ways from it yet, to the extent of being able to do anything practical with it.
