Do you think in the future we will have the technology to travel in time?

Travel backwards in time is logically impossible. Simply because it's impossible to be present in another time in the past without affecting your own future (however hard you try).

Assuming time is linear, or even exists

If something akin to the multiverse theory is true, and that every possible outcome does happen. Then there is a universe somewhere where Ronald McDonald died slipping over a spilt coke at your 9th birthday party.

In 20 years you might be able to get in a time machine and try prevent that from happening, but theres another universe where that has already happened too

I'm going to go with either:

Einstein - its all relative to the observer anyway

    or

Pauli: Trying to observe an event changes the event itself

I believe it may be possible.......

But why hasnt anyone from the future come back AND ADMITTED THEY ARE FROM THE FUTURE?? (Except John Titor)

    Who knows.......

All of us travel in time.
    Think about it.
    What year is it?
Is this the same year you were born?
    For most of us NO.
How did we get to now from then?

The question may need to be rephrased, "How do we travel faster or slower through time than folks around us?"

We look at generally-held scientific beliefs of the past, and are amused at how quaint they are. In the future people will do the same thing about the early 21st century.

I read somewhere that the the mass of knowledge is now doubling every 5 years. We are constantly finding more aspects of time and our universe in general that we don't understand, or which operate differently than our current scientific theories say they should. Barring some world-destroying cataclysmic event, our rate of acquiring knowledge will continue to expand and increase. With our current levels of knowledge we estimate that the Earth will be livable for humans for billions more years.

Yes, I believe time travel to the past will happen.

You can't travel through time because time does not exist!

if we don't seriously stop overpopulation, we won't have anything in 50 years, and we aint gonna have any of that fantasy stuff in 50 years. Probably not in 500 yrs, and why care if we do, since we'll all be dead in 100 yrs or so?

If we could travel back in "time" and change whatever happened, then wouldn't the experience be altered to future observers in accordence to what the "time traveler" initially saw?
And I am guessing people have claimed to be from the future and have been labeled clinically insane.

Past, present and future are all based on your current position.
To a person in 1950 I'm from the futre.
To a person in 2050 I'm in the past.

What we all share is that we are in the present. Albeit, our own present. It all comes down to a matter of perception. (cf. The problem and paradox of the role of the observer in all science experimentations)

The universe spins and loops back on itself. And because it does this, time travel to the past is possible. And time slips are relatively common. You just have to know where to look and how to look. Just like in football, if you can touch it, you can catch it.

Therefore if you can see, smell, touch and taste 1950. Guess what, you're in 1950. Yes it's that simple and that hard.

Joel, if going to the past is possible what you suggested seems to be the only way that we could go back in time. Our presence in the past would change the future and create a parallel universe.

    Further thought:
If we could return to our own time after such a world-changing event, would we return to the world as we left it or return to a world modified by our activities in the past? Could we choose which one to return to?

Ray Bradbury wrote a short story called, A Sound of Thunder that deals with this question.

I’m a great believer in that
“Nothing is impossible, only incomprehensible at the moment in time”

The Spirit world of shadowy ghostly figures that drift in and out of distorted vision – Could they not be travellers that are to the point be literally “out of time/synch” with that of our own?
