I saw this program on tv tonight called “Intervention”. It’s about stoners who are basically taken against their will, with the collusion of so-called loving family members, to a re-hab place to be dried out and re-educated. It made me think that there may be stoners whose only hope to become a productive member of society is to be kidnapped thusly, but I question the effectiveness of this method.

So, have any of you experienced such an intervention? Do you wish you had? How many times have you gone through re-hab?

I helped set up a intervention for my best friend. He found out about it and didn't show. He's been dead for 11 years.

I haven't seen the show, but I know it's about a lot more than stoners.

The one I saw tonite was about a stoner, but I guess the concept could apply to alcoholics, sex addicts, internet junkies, gamblers, thumb suckers, etc.

Usually when an intervention is planned it is the end of the line for most. It is substance abuse that has taken over and is destroying their lives. It is also usually destroying the lives of all those around them as well.

It is substance abuse that is no longer controllable. In most cases it is a matter of time before they are dead if they do not stop. That is very different than being a stoner.

they dont do intervetions for stoners. the show intervention follows the lives of people who are hard core addicts, such as oxycontin or meth or heroin etc.. definitely not soley for marijuana.

Intervention is for far worse off than "stoners"... there is an episode with a naked methhead.. another with a girl addicted to duster.. i cannot remember what the other ones were off the top of my head but i dont remember any of them being of marijuana use

I did the whole computer duster thing for a couple months I'm ashamed to say. It's the only drug that ever had me hospitilized and I was hospitilized twice from it. I'm positive that I have irreversible brain damage and possible organ damage from it, not quite sure why I'm posting this... Relevance I guess... :(

I agree it is may more than just being a stoner. I just finished watching one just prior to logging on. I caught mostly the end, but the dude was a hard core pill popper, and as Heat said the substance abuse had taken over his life.

They have had H addicts, meth, huffing, alcohol...
The subject is usually pretty fucked up, and for sure the addiction is severe by the time they film the show.

The key to the show, however is the little narrative they put on the screen after the credits have run. They give updates starting with how they came out of recovery. What they did after recovery, and at the very end they tell you whether the subject relapsed or doing well.

I usually try and predict relapse or no relapse.
If they are sober they tell us subject has been clean and sober since (insert date here.)

I'm always happy when they stay sober. :)

honey and nuts .. fyi, I dont visit a billion sites, dont have a cell phone, dont have a facebook, or a myspace, twitter, dont watch Televison all that much when I do,. its what I choose to watch. not what someone is force feeding me to watch.. 44ooo isnt much of anything when I could show you a poster on the shroomery with over 200k all they do is munch on magic mushrooms and dont really give a high five a fuckes whats going on in your so called reality, they seem to. as much as I seem to be enjoying life without the other miserable necessities.. like televised brainwashing..

Try this here post as a bar of soap, and get some in your ears and listen to whats being said instead of trying to tell someone else to get a life out the side of your neck.. Its much easier to hang yourself that ways.....

Maybe I need an intervention being so semi retired and a combat veteran. I dont have much a life honey and nuts, really I just sit in the house all day popping my prozac and sulking over the people I killed, contemplating suicide .. geezze..

that would probably be true is someone pulled some interventionism on me...

Thankfully im well armed with my wits..and a cannabis cannon.. ..

And everybody else is being force fed I guess. Maybe you need to visit other sites or watch more tv or read more newspapers - anything to give you more than the one prespective on life that HF gives you.

But, unlike you, that person isn't coming on here taking other people to task for their viewing habits.

I'm not the one telling other people to get a life - that was you, remember?

Thanks for serving our country. There is help out there.
