Okay so I have heard SOOOO many negative stories about this drug. Ive heard it can be a life saver for addicts, or one way tickets to death for idiots. Scratch that, even the best make mistakes. Basically what I want to know; How dangerous is Methadone, really? And since that is such a loaded question I hope that these other factors will help provide for a more accurate answer. Im a male, 130lbs, 19, active, healthy all around. I have a pretty good tolerance to opiates. I dont really binge on pills. I like to rail or pop around 20-30mgs of oxy/hydrocodone daily, or every other day. Ive plugged some dillies cause its the 2nd best way, after IVing, to absorb a pill quicker and at a higher availability %. Im not big into needles... (shudder) Ive taken methadone before, only 10mgs and because i was ill-educated I stupidly mixed it with alcohol and other psychotropic/sedative/opiate drugs. I got so messed up i didnt even think before i popped. Im going to say there was some dillies or benzos, or both involved... i felt good, cant say much else though, i dont remember anything. Anyways, after finding out that people have actually died from ONLY 10MG!! It scared me and I refused to ever taken one when offered. Well... months later i ended up with some meth and took 10mg. And, while it wasnt a SUPER intense euphoria like opiates produce, it was niceeee and lasted a while Well I recently hurt my back doing yard work and I also have a headache. I hate OTC drugs. I also am out of all narcotics/pain relievers. Since I rarely touch methadone my tolerance is low. what would be an educated dosage that would get me to a nice state and maybe cut the pain or at least make me think of something else. I already too a 10mg methadone and its been.. about 2 hours, (and yes i know the time it takes for the pill to reach its peak is 2-4 hours) and nothing has changed, maybe a SLiGHT buzz. Can i take another 5mg... maybe even a full 10mg? Im not into risks, or at least not blind risks. One high aint worth the risk to die. I have read that A LOT, not all, of the deaths surrounding methadone were shown to have occurred because the person mixed methadone and other substances and wasnt aware of the drugs potency, half life, and potentiation risk factors. I am currently only on 10mgs of methadone and the only thing i have to mix is more meth. Unless 2mg of xanax, taken around 5am this morning, and a 30mg adderall, taken around one pm will affect anything... With all this info on myself in tow, can anyone give me a straight answer on how risky it would be for me to dose on 15-20mgs of methadone. I understand the majority of posters on here have no medical degrees, but the title 'Dr.' doesnt mean you suddenly know everything. People with actual experience usually have more knowledge on something then any book could ever teach I know this may sound like an silly question, but the amount of deaths, annually, involving methadone is astronomical. Its actually 10xs higher then the annual deaths involving actual heroin abuse... so to me, this is a serious question.
i would say 10 mgs should do the trick. I currently am on a methadone program and I know its really dangerous to mix benzos and methadone they do drug screens and if you test positive for benzos they drop you so just be careful alcohol and methadone is also not good to mix
Why methadone is dangerous by itself : The onset is very long and people end up taking more than they need. Why methadone is dangerous when added with outer meds: methadone is a stronge respiratory depressant, taken with other depressant ie; xanax alcohol, opaties, is potentially fatal. Methadone isnt that dangerous, the only thing that makes it dangerous is the uneducated user.
As stated above, methadone is not that dangerous by itself. However it is not hard to kill yourself if you don't value life and just want to get way too high, like all opiates. The real problem with methadone is (in my opinion) that most people who go to clinics or whatever to stop shooting dope end up becoming more addicted to the methadone then they were to the heroin. Then there stuck trying to get off methadone which is a long process of very gradually tapering your dose and the possibility of going through a withdraw 100x worse than heroin. So basically don't take any other opiates/benzos or even alchohol, don't take it everyday for an extended period of time. As far as dosage - I know that 50mg of liquid methadone is not enough to kill someone with a considerably low tolerance. This knowledge has come from people i personally know getting on a methadone clinic at which they started them at 50mg.To be safe if you took 10 mg and didn't get the close to the effect you know your body can handle then double it and go from there.
