My husband has an interest in opium. I understand you can buy poppy pods online. I presume they are dried. Many people talk about making teas and such and warn of the dangers. My question is - is it possible to extract the opium latex from these poppies? If so, any teks or techniques to recommend?
The only pods I have seen online are dried. Their pretty easy to find, but I would get some seeds from your first order and plant your own, lots cheaper that way. As for extracting the actual latex for smoking purposes...not sure of that one...I assume that if your can dissolve the key ingredients out of the pods/seeds then you could do some kind of an extraction...maybe making the tea then letting it evap would produce some kind of residue but I'm not sure if it would yield that much...might not be worth it. If you get some dried ones its a simple matter of making tea with them. You could also buy unwashed bulk seeds. They have a good bit of latex dried onto them, and you could make the tea with them also. If you do decide to, I believe you need a slightly acidic water to fully dissolve the opies. Some popular ways are adding lemon juice, or vinegar to your water, then steeping in hot water for about 30 min. -DL
