Hey guys, I'm new here and I just got my dreadlocks done about a week ago, they're backcombed and crocheted. I only used the crochet hook to lock them, I won't be doing any maintenance. But I would like to know if i should split them. They're pretty thick, most of them are a tad thicker than my thumb, but they're also really fluffy and soft (the only one that I have that isn't fluffy and soft is about the thickness of my index finger) and I only have 19 dreadlocks. Should I split? And how would I go about splitting them? Or is this fluffiness gonna reduce and they'll thin down?
i don't know how you're going to split them if you backcombed and crocheted.. unless you comb them out. over time they will only get fatter. the fluff will go away in about 9 months for the most part, but will probably still occur on the top of your head. i say, fatter the better, but they might pull on your scalp later if they get too huge. none of mine are super super fat so i can't say for sure.
Why do you want to split them? Would you prefer thinner ones? The fatties are awesome You'll have a fair bit of trouble splitting them now. If you want thinner ones or don't like the thickness, you may have to just brush out and start again.
I keep thinking the thread title is 'Should I spit?' and suddenly wonder why such a naughty thread is in the dreadlocks forum .
If you mean rip, to prevent congos, no, of course not. If you mean split locks... that ain't happening, you'll go bald Those are not very large locks, honestly... it's strange that you have so few of that size, but no, you probably won't want to. My taste in locks got more eclectic and chunky as I grew them, and the same has happened to others I've talked to. Your only option for reducing size is to comb out and start again, but I doubt it's a good option, my advice would be to wait and see where it goes now that you've gone to all the trouble to backcomb and crochet (of all rediculous things...)
