Does anyone else here experience some of his music like you experience the poetry of Rumi, or something as inspiring? "Tea For the Tillerman" is my favourite!
Yeah, that was a great album! I remember when it came out. It was truly an amazing feat. What talent! Very inspiring for so many back then. I think it's sad that Cat Stevens decided to dedicate his talents to one group, ignoring the rest of his fans who were inspired by his non-religious music. But it's his choice. I can understand his turning his back on pop music & culture. He got screwed pretty bad. His recent music just doesn't have the same feeling.
What a beautiful talent he has ,it makes one wonder just what he could do if it were allowed free rein!!???
I was into Cat Steven's music years ago - trouble is, that his conversion to Islam really put me off. If he was so enlightened back in the old days, what was he doing a few years ago supporting the fatwa against Salman Rushdie? And expressing very narrow and intolerant views and attitudes in general? Saw Cat, now Yusuf, on TV recently, and he's moderated his ideas a bit, but still too much into trad. Islam for me. He's recording a new albim which is due for release this autumn.
I so enjoyed Cat Stevens's music back in the day. Tea for the Tillerman is still a favorite. Brings back so many precious memories for me of my first Love in high school who turned me on to Cat's music. It's sad to me to lose the gift he could give through the music he had within because he turned away from it for whatever his reasons. However, he has chosen a different path which enriches his soul and I can only be happy for him. I saw him in a documentary, I think it was, not too long ago, and he seems quite happy and content with his life. Good for him! :2thumbsup: Blessings, Love and Peace to you, Avalon :daisy: With many Blessings, may they multiply through Our Divine Eternal and Infinite Loving Energy! :sunny:
