jokes aside, square one is quite nice - and though i do not care for his music i'd put it more down to cultural taste than bad songwriting.

My favorite Tom Petty song is "Refugee". Suuuuch a cool ass song. The Melody, guitar all of it just makes for a really good song to sing to and listen to.
