In an amazingly stupid and vicious election campaign, a McDonald's manager enclosed a note to his employees stating that his employees would get lower pay and no benefits unless they vote Republican. Threatening employees to vote one way or another is a violation of federal laws and ethically wrong on so many levels that one has to wonder what is going on in this country?

Of course the corporate position of McDonald's is to deny any involvement and blame the local manager.

It's just news because it's McDonalds. It also wasn't the whole corporation: it was just one manager.

If the workers are smart, they will just tell their boss that they agree with him and then do what they want.

Yea, like McDonalds employs America's best and brightest straight from Harvard and Yale. Come on, most of these burger pushers are kids just out of high school, many of them voting for the first time.

Am I the only one who sees the delicious irony of a corporation whose main spokesman is a clown would look to pressure its employees into voting Repugnican?

Not a surprise. These sorts of situations always seem to come from bullshit places where no matter who gets voted in, the lives of the workers or whoever is pushing such garage is never going to change one damn bit. Wishful thinking at it's most disturbing. Not to mention I've lived in Ohio my whole life and it's amazing how people here act as if they're ready to dismember and eat their young if who they want doesn't get elected.

Example here of one of these morons...which are a dime a dozen here in OH.

The corporation didn't, though. One of it's employees did and then apologised. And I get to hear about it thousands of miles away.
Did you not read the article?

I apologized for growing pot, but they took me to jail anyway. When did the system stop taking apologies for criminal behavior, damn socialists.

If he did anything illegal the full weight of the law should fall onto him.
I didn't wish to say that an apology was enough...that's just what he did.

    What?

It doesn't matter if it was one manager, a bunch of them, or a conspiracy by the top people...

McDonalds, like other multinational franchises, spend huge sums of money to spread their brand across as wide of an area as possible.

Part of that strategy is to emphasis when they do good and minimize when they do bad.

If an employee of a McDonalds in florida saves a baby's life while at work one day, that will get blasted across the world as McDonald's employee saves baby... Every McDonalds will benefit from the feelings of goodwill generated by it. That is precisely why franchises exist... to minimize on the amount spent to look good...

The criminal part of it is when they then turn around and try to sacrifice one of their locations to support the rest...

"Oh... that wasn't 'us' that was an independantly owned and operated location" is a standard line the corporate offices have for anyone who calls to discuss complaints or problems with a location.

If they want to tout their brand... then they get to accept the bad AND the good that comes along with it.

You want a straight line argument for the same thing?

Corporate offices approved the person who opened that franchise. That person hired the manager who did this. The responsibility should go to the top... If they don't like it, they should get out of the franchising business...

Why, no of course I didn't... I felt that popping off half cocked would afford you an opportunity to set me straight in a vaguely demeaning manner. You did well. :) Besides, I'm an American... it's my birthright to spout off on topics I know little about... and refuse to read readily available information.

Congresspeople do it all the time... based on the premise that we'll never know the difference. All's fair in love and war.

No insult to your intelligence intended. But, jeez didn't you, really?
    Btw, you did even better...;)

You are an uncommon American, though.
