President Obama says he is not disappointed with his accomplishments since his election, stating his administration did so much that "we have done things that some folks don't even know about." Seems Obama stuck to his serious side even though venturing onto the Comedy Channel's "Daily Show with Jon Stewart" last night. He barely smiled, let alone cracked any jokes about ANYTHING. In fact he refused the bait several times from irrepressible jokester Jon Stewart. Read more on the Huffington Post and watch the video also!
The economy is growing? Really? I don't see it, but then again I'm looking at it from an outsiders perspective.
Being retired I also stand on the sidelines. I will say, though, that Many prices have come down and that's a benefit. My friend in the grave business is getting more work (more people cremate in hard times) and one friend who works in a car parts factory got 20 hours overtime last week, and has been getting at least 10 a week for over 2 months, as opposed to many 30 hour weeks a year to 2 ago. It is slowly getting better. For a comparison, look at how long it took for us to get out of the Great Depression. Plus, the non-partisan Economists say the economy is getting better. .
If they cremate, then they don't need graves. It's probably cause more people who can't afford health insurance are dying. Maybe that's cause fewer ppl are buying new cars and instead are fixing old ones and need new parts. Cars are not selling well at all. Ah but the only ones who are prospering are multinational megacorps cause biz is booming around the world - so they're showing profits, but not from the USA. It's class warfare in the US and UK...
Like who ? Economists say a true recovery cannot take place until a good number of jobs are created each month. Economists estimate that the country needs to create at least 125,000 jobs per month just to keep up with the nation's expanding job force. That translates into roughly 11 million jobs just to get back to the 5% unemployment rate from before the recession.
I watched the interview. It was okay, Jon Stewart really came down pretty hard on Obama for the apparent differences in what came out of his being elected and the over the top energy of his campaign. Many times Stewart literally laughed in Obama's face at some of his statements. I would have to disagree with Stewart though, although sure maybe more was promised than what we got, I didn't really expect a major reform. There is too much vested interest of the all wealthy and all powerful in the Government, and they use our strict system to block any just attempts at reforming the more corrupt aspects of our Government and Economy. It could have been an amazing interview if Jon Stewart would have brought up actual issues and not the campaign/presidency dissonance. If I remember correctly he couldn't get off that. The economy did recover pretty decently after the recession, and it looks like there is some hope for growth if we can accept the global picture. The problem is people thought we were going to be tremendously prosperous very quickly. And a good example of prosperity with the Globe is Ford. They turned their focus away from only the United States to foreign markets and made a quick recovery and are now in the surplus. And I think the Huffington Post's point that it wasn't a laughing matter is silly, I don't think anyone expected Obama to be cracking jokes, after all, correct me if I'm wrong, but a one on one interview with Obama is not very common. I don't think anyone would waste it with jokes, but maybe with your own disappointment....
I think of it more as a masacre than a war. War implies two or more parties participating. The US middle class hasn't yet figured out a way to shoot back.
