Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Movie Blurb by Shale August 14, 2010 OK, for those of you who don't take time to read, here is a synopsis of my Blurb: I REALLY LIKED THIS MOVIE! IT WAS A HOOT! GO SEE IT! A little more detail. This is another movie based on a comic book that I have never seen. Guess I am too old for comic books but not too old for movies based on them. So, in the hype of the Comics Website: Scott Pilgrim is a critically acclaimed, award-winning series of graphic novels by Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O'Malley. Boys and girls! Young and old! Come one, come all! Read Scott Pilgrim! Five volumes in stores now! One to go! 2010! (Ages 13 and up!) Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is 22 years old, living in the big city (Toronto) with his gay roommate, (Kieran Culkin) just trying to get by in this crazy world. He's in a band. He's lazy. He likes video games. He likes the new girl in town, Ramona Flowers(Mary Elizabeth Winstead), ... Scott & Ramona ... but to win her heart, he has to defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends. Seven Evil Exes OK, Ramona keeps correcting him when he says "ex-boyfriends" by saying "exes." Yeah, that's right. This movie is really fast paced and laid out like a comic book, with text on the frames, split panels, and special effects in the wire-work fight scenes that can only be drawn on paper. It is a story and presentation geared for kids (why I love it so much). Kinetic with inserted asides it is like reading down a page of small panels. Split Panels on Screen in Comic Book Style Scott at 22 still suffers all the insecurity and teen angst that is Cera's trademark. He is going with a 17-year-old Chinese high school girl, Knives Chau (Ellen Wong) but it is yet to become physical - like they haven't even got to first base. His band's drummer, (Allison Pill) is an old HS G/F that he dumped. He lives with and shares a bed with his gay roommate, who always rats him out to his sister (Anna Kendrick - a bit distracting as I knew her since she was Valedictorian at Forks HS). Just the normal (?) life of a young man until exciting, unattainable, weird Ramona shows up and Scott's world turns into chaos. It was an enjoyable, fun movie. I was laughing, as were other ppl in the theater. I'll probably be seeing it again before getting it on DVD.
This Pilgrim looks boring. I am excited to see Piranha 3d in theaters Friday. 3d babes, blood and action! Awesomo! Somebody give Shale some ginger snaps. Its literally like a dinosaur reviewing a movie. Rawwrr!
