That's spooky.

The thing is, would the robot work so well if it was mimicking an English woman not a Japanese/Chinese woman - who are generally more formal?

That's really amazing! I don't know if I like to own one though, it does kinda creep me out a little.

 

I can think of a few good uses :leaving:

 

Receptionist. Tour Guide...that sort of thing?

I think this particular robot was created to be a nurse. I was on msn.com earlier and saw a stillshot of this video with the headline :"nurses of the future?" and then there was a line under it about how the robots could be programed to react to human emotion. I didn't read the article so I'm not 100% sure.

I know theres a huge nursing shortage so it makes sense in a way that if scientists have the capability to create such an advanced robot, why not use it in a field where there simply aren't enough humans to fill all positions....but thats really, really freaky. I certainly would not want a robot taking care of me if I was in the hospital. there is a lot to be said for being cared for by a warm-blooded, emotional human.

It really freaks me out that robots can be programmed to react to human emotion..just sayin'

 

I have read many articles on the intertubes and in newspapers that claim the more human a robot looks the more people are freaked out by them. People from all over the world prefer to have a robot around them that looks more like Johnny 5 or the little dudes from Silent Running than one that looks human. And yes, that thing is creepy as fuck.
