I was moaning the other day that there was no good news within the news forum.
I have looked through many different news outlets and I can't really find any relevant good news.
We all know about the Chilean miners...and...well, that's about it, really.
As good news as that was, is it going to change anything within Chile like some people have speculated? I doubt it.

I don't want this thread to be about any tiny piece of good news out there, I am asking is the lack of good news a good sign?
It must mean life is ticking on by and the media are too bored to write about it, right?

A lack of good news is probably a sign that we're all being good little worker bees.

Give me a call when the next Kaczynski makes the news.

We must be thinking alike. I was going to post a thread identical to this yesterday! Yes you are definitely correct that there is a predominance of bad news being reported.

To answer your question about whether no good news is good news: NO! See below.

First realize this is an election season in America. The REAL news for the past few months has been marginalized if reported on at all. It's far more important to Americans to hear bad news before elections, esp. any news that instills FEAR in people so they vote with their guts instead of their heads.

This has been the routine for the last 5 elections at least.

But yes, as I started this news section a couple of weeks ago and attempted to make it more interesting I came across a plethora of bad news stories, many of SO DEPRESSING on many different levels, I had trouble not getting depressed myself!

A few days in the past week I couldn't even find a decent story to publish here due to the stories being so depressing.

What's depressing about them is that they are all indicative of how the world is heading downhill fast. The stories are all the OPPOSITE of what we'd like to see.

I guess I'll start a thread on news stories that we'd LIKE to see. I was also thinking of making a forum for "future news", events that we think might transpire in the near or distant future... But I didn't know whether it would be linked to the Future forum or the Psychic forum...hummm....

I won't make any political point as I checked the English news outlets, not the North American.
Unless, that is, the news is tailored for Americans abroad!

I, too, came across a plethora of bad news, or just good news with a negative spin. E.g The economy improved but get ready for the double dip recession.
    Great, thanks for that.
Atleast let me get used to the economy improving slightly, jeez.

I think it is a good idea to have a forum about future events that have hope of turning out to be good...or atleast have not failed yet.
I was reading about developments in the Sudan, that seemed like it might be going well. Then I read it really wasn't.
Good luck with that idea, Skip.

I guess the only good news I've come across in the past few days is that the Dems are on the rebound and of course that George Soros story supporting cannabis legalization is good to hear.

Prop 19 badly needs a last minute infusion of money to hit the airwaves at the last minute to get those stoners motivated. In fact they probably need to saturate the airwaves on Nov 2nd to remind those too stoned to know what day it is!

Last week, ABC, I think, did a wonderful story about a young Afghan woman who had lost her nose and ears as a result of an attack by her family. She was left for dead and found her way to an American base where the medics took care of her and eventually got her to the US where surgeons donated their time and talents to fix her face.

There are many good news stories, you just have to look for them. And, I'd like to think it's the fault of the media, but it isn't; bad news brings more viewers than good news. They're just giving the public what it wants to see.

    What a trip...

I thought for a second and looked at the headlines - here's the latest rundown:
    Indonesia volcano Merapi erupts

Cholera death rate slows in Haiti

    Deadly tsunami strikes Indonesia

    Tariq Aziz sentenced to death

French protests ease ahead of vote

Myanmar struggles in wake of storm

    Egypt opposition activists arrested

    Iran begins fueling nuclear plant

Wikileaks files chart al-Qaeda's rise in Iraq

And that's the INTERNATIONAL stuff... there is something going on out there in spite of the US election cycle. Big money in that biz of elections.

Anyway, where is the good news these days... not in the local papers even it seems.

Not me personally, but my voice is only one of 310 million.

This plays out in our every day lives. People always slow down and rubber-neck for the 6 car pile up with bodies laying about, yet they keep eyes straight ahead and gas to the floor when going by the guys collecting money for the Children's Hospital. I think it has something to do with a "thank god it's not me" mentality.

I guess I meant if the news forums had all those stories posted within this thread, and there were 6 "good" stories, would you gravitate to comment on the "bad" stories"?
