There's very few national news organizations in the US that have the ability to do international news, that's the problem. Traditionally international news was the domain of print. Television was for local news programing. There's the few odd shows, dateline, ect. There's the 24 hours news networks, which you have CNN which is a joke, FOX which could lead to the end of the world, and MSNBC which is tolerable. Outside the big 24 hours new companies, if you're a paper, you not only have to write the local news, you have the write the national news, which involves a country of 310 million people spread out over 1/2 a continent, then you can get to international news, which is often US dominated to begin with even in foreign papers. Heck the US doesn't even have a national paper, New York Times is the closest thing we have to one. There's USA Today which came out specifically to be a national paper, but it's meh.
^ I agree that MSNBC is tolerable - but I think that USA Today is as well. I mean, overall, I suppose it's more like a magazine than a thorough newspaper -- but a good magazine is far better than most news outlets these days. I think really, we are all using the best news source to bullshit right now :afro:
I don't think there is anything strange about that. It appears to be a secure site, where the general public was never allowed. The mine is out in the middle of the desert, 25 miles from the nearest town. From videos of news people walking around the rescue site, everyone seemed to have security badges and were either some type official, rescue worker, news media or from the miners family. Security was also seen in force, patrolling the area.
you used something unrelated to criticize the us. your anti-america mindset is obvious with your other post. you're splitting hairs.
What other post? The one where I generalize the media? And it wasn't meant to criticize anything. It was meant to point out a potential difference. If you were offended by it it's because your patriotic ego is too sensitive. You connected dots that weren't there. If I wanted to say the US sucks I'd come out and say it, I wouldn't take the time to come up with crappy threads just to beat around the bush.
What am I wrong about and how is it you know what I'm thinking? I'll try to make my point as clear as possible; I noticed the president for Chile seemed to have low security, this made me think that Chile must have a relaxed attitude, low crime/violence. I notice weekly that Canada has very low security around Parliament. I know that we are a country that is relaxed, meaning mostly low crime rate/violence. Every time I see the president he's surrounded by many men, understandably, and that one isn't able to get very close to the White House. This tells me that they take more caution with their leaders than Chile and Canada do, which could suggest more reason to be precautious, i.e. guns.
Because I talk about how relaxed Canada is? I live here, naturally I'm going to understand its mentality better. You've jumped to conclusions a few times throughout this thread. It's fine you have your opinions, though you seen to be coming at this from an insulted point of view. Not the best place to be having a discussion from. I simply made some observations.
Oh sure, like you've just been rescued from a deep underground mine and then you're going to assault the president on live television so you can then spend the rest of your life in a cell.
Not really he was there to help the miners cope with their long ordeal but remember it’s the government who’s paying the bills not the miners. Hotwater
I mean it's odd that some thought the miners could be a potential threat. I was thinking more like some nut job or something, not one of the miners.
And a lot more skinny. Some of those men must have been morbidly obeese before going into the mine. Because they still managed to come out as fat men.
