cobcottage, that's awesome. I'm gonna check into your links soon, and see what I can do to no longer rely on the Man. Yes, that big man who sits in that building 100 stories above New York, watching everyone very closing with his telescope.

Ah, just joking! I got ya, didn't I?

Thanks, nice to meet you guys.:)

Applespark- Thanks for those links. I just spent a half an hour going through your links, wishing I had the money to buy some of those earthships. I like how the biotecture site has pictures of the earthships that are up for sale.

I think people are more commited to change than they have ever been. (at least I am). A severely disabled friend of mine can barely make ends meet and another had to pull her kids out of school and put off college because there was no bus service.

People don't seem to understand how hard it can be for others. A co worker of mine had to quit because her ex stopped taking the kids and he stopped paying child support so there she is with no job and no money. For a while there I wondered if she stole twenty bucks from me, but I thought about it and decided I didn't care. What kind of country are we living in when people steal your money and you can't even fault them.

Another friend of mine works at the local suvival center. She says there are more homeless this year than ever before and the food bank is actually running low on food. If anyone has time, please donate to your local food bank!!!!

Here is a great site if you believe in economic human rights-

I think people are slowly changing their ways, but not enough people. We are fighting something big.

While I was at home for Thanksgiving, the local news showed activists outside the mall giving out info on International Buy Nothing Day, I thought it was great that they were getting media attention.
I heard on NPR today that Walmart is not getting the usual holiday boost. Yay, we just might be making a dent!! :)

Well, if everyone is becoming poor, it would make sense that we are making a dent, and it's because no one has any money. I don't know, we all got to learn to live very frugally, cause for those of us who are lucky enough to not have a family to support, what expenses do we have? Rent, and food, basically. And as for driving cars, well, I don't anymore because I do not want to. Cars add a lot of frustration to your life, and trust me, if you'll start riding the bus system, if that's possible, you'll understand what I mean. What sucks though, is that it's about impossible to live alone nowadays, since rent is so fucking high. So if you're someone who's looking for solitude, you're pretty much out of luck in this here country. Shit, hopefully the stock market will crash soon, and all the prices will go bankrupt, and all the businesses will be forced by the crash to lower their fucking prices, including housing costs. But yes, it's obvious that this system can't last much longer in its present state, and its because too many people are fed up with it.

Everyone Come to Wisconsin! We must take what we can before the American Machine strips us of all of our natural resources. We will stand up and say Hell NO! This land is not yours. GET OFF! And we will begin a new nation armed to protect our land from the aggressors in Washington. This is my homeland and we be the homeland of your children. Homeland or death.

Actually, luxury items are flying off the shelves, no doubt due to the Bush Administration's favoring of the well-off. It will catch up with us soon enough though. The deficit is expanding much like our waistlines. It just can't continue indefinitely.

Agreed, I see a depression looming in the next decade or so. We're just pushing it too far. It will be a dangerous time, because it's times like those when power is siezed. Look at Germany in the 20's and 30's. Chaos may bring change, but we'll have to work hard to make sure it isn't change for the worse.

By the way, God, you spelled Pabst wrong in your sig. :)

Thanks for all the great links cobcottage and applespark, gave me some great info. I also feel that we are on the cusp of a big change. I feel that the responsiblilty is put on the individual to keep him or herself informed and active. Sometimes i get frustrated because i don't think i can do anything where i currently am other than live my own life in a sustainable, caring way.
I used to live in one of the largest cities in Canada, now i call a rural community my home (by choice). Its tough a lot of times because there aren't any activist groups and the motivation and power & change by numbers that goes along with it. Thats where the internet saves my butt and I can keep myself informed and up to date on things. Plus, its tough to start a group when there really aren't many people around, grrr! Anyway, thanks again for the links, nice to have a contact with like-minded individuals.

    Ironic, isn't it?

We are also making a dent in other ways. If you have noticed the interchange between the media and blogs lately. The fact that more people have internet than cable seems to be making a dent in how some news networks report the news. Check out Hardball tonight, Amy Goodman will be
    on again:)

Trippin- Yeah, especially if we run out of oil. That makes what we do in the next few years that much more dire.

Nice to Meet you Middlepath and everyone. I live out in the middle of nowhere as well. I can take the bus places but it costs money so I can't afford to go anywhere without a ride.

If anyone wants a laugh, here is a silly picturebook on a blog. LOL!-

no no no!! dont give money to unicef...they are part of a global sterilization project. they put sterilizing agents into vaccines without the knowledge of the people who are on the receiving end. i know that sounds extrememly looney and conspiracy theoryish, but look at this link... http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2004/mar/04031101.html or do a google for: unicef vaccination sterilization

sorry to interrupt this lovely thread so rudely, please carry on!!

When I google the information I find international newspapers quoting that same biased pro-life website. I did find this little gem however-

    http://ifrl.org/IFRLDailyNews/041018/1/

It seems that conservative christians have a beef with Unicef because it promotes contraception and perhaps loosely promotes abortion.

I realize you were trying to be helpful, but please research your sources before you help in distorting the name of a respected organization like Unicef.

You have, however, presented a great example of the snowballing effect of misinformation, and the direction our world is moving in as a result.:(

    okayyyyyyyy....deep breath.....

try looking on google for unicef and hcg

i dont have any problem with abortion. it's not something i would probably choose for myself, but it's a choice that every woman should have. i'm not christian either. and i have spent countless hours researching vaccination. i DO have a problem with an agency that forces involuntary sterilization upon millions of women worldwide. This has been documented over and over again. Even the world health organization has admitted that unicef has distributed vaccines that contain hcg. when a woman is injected with minute quantities of hcg, her body will create anitbodies against hcg. that means that any actual pregnancy in her body will be perceived as an attack on her immune system and her body will mount an autoimmune response against that pregnancy and terminate it.

It is exactly because of crap in our world like this (forced involuntary sterilization of millions of women worldwide by organizations like unicef) that it is SO IMMENENTLY IMPORTANT to form a new society. So, to get this thread back on topic, i would encourage people that if they feel the need to donate money to causes this holiday season, to invest it into fair trade, or local community programs that nurture families, or to put their time and money towards educating people in their communities about the alternatives that are available that have been discussed previously in this thread.

I did, do you have any direct links to info? I can only search so long. The first three articles referred to the same Lifesite article and the other ones.

Edit: You'll have to google it yourself, the link won't work. I DID another google however. This time "Christian Rumors Vaccination unicef"-

    Vaccine safe

    Nigeria Ends Ban

The christian right has a history of spreading disinformation about Unicef.

I really like your suggestions. I'm thinking of collecting food for the local survival center with my mom, but I can't really give as much this year as I would like:(

Take care, nice to meet you:) Please share more ideas if you have them, I hope I didn't start us off on the wrong foot.

    :)

my links are to anti-vax sites, which some may find to be kind of extremist, but they do reference the materials that they're citing, so....anyways...
    http://www.ewtn.com/library/ISSUES/STEALTH.TXT
    http://thinktwice.com/birthcon.htm
    http://www.mednat.org/vaccini/controllo_popolazione.htm

some of the other links that i had to major newswires are now dead, because they dont hold the info very long. <shrug> what can ya do?

While i'm on the subject, here are some interesting links about the dangers of vaccination:
    http://www.whale.to/vaccines/mendelsohn.html
    http://www.***********/2003/jul/12/vis_brochure.pdf
    http://64.41.99.118/vran/
    http://www.whale.to/vaccines/butler3.html

and i have dozens of links on alternative health and wellbeing. i feel that it's important to take responsibility for our own health, because allopathic medicine is solely in place as a money making machine for the pHarmaceutical companies.
