Russell Williams, a former Colonel in the Canadian Armed Forces, has been convicted of murder, rape, kidnapping and related sexual assaults.

Of interest here is that Judge Robert Scott of Ontario Superior Court has ordered that the vehicle the kidnapper used, a Nissan Pathfinder truck, be crushed.

It reminds me of the bulldozing in the 90's of killer Paul Bernardo's house. Now you can just imagine the truck rolling down the road with a big smile on its grill, thinking "This is great, I'm helping kidnap someone." Hundreds of skilled workers spent hundreds of hours manufacturing that truck, and it is potentially serviceable to a new owner for years to come. What disrespect to the workers. What a waste of time and energy.

Is the Colonel going to be sitting in the truck when it gets crushed? That I could understand.

Some states in the U.S. have passed laws that prevent convicted criminals from profiting as a result of their notoriety. Some people collect memorabilia associated with famous murderers and some of that stuff is quite valuable.

As for the house, I can see the signs now, "Home of Famous Serial Rapist," as the neighbors property values plummet.

I think both Judges made wise decisions.

i really doubt the people who built the truck are anywhere near as upset with this as you seem to be

I think the point of this is that it was done in the interest of justice to the families of the victims and the community.

Among the items listed for destruction are the following:
    1. The cameras he used to film his torture/rape/murder of two girls.
    2. The ropes used to bind the girls.
    3. Stolen lingerie, not certain if it belonged to the murdered girls or some of the 82 "fetish burglaries" that he was also convicted of.
    4. The truck that was not only used in the abduction but also the body disposal.

The key here is that he made two young girls suffer terribly before murdering them and terrorized a whole community with his break-ins all while being a highly respected member of the community considered above reproach. The destruction is not punishment but rather a means to help the victims and community to put their pain to rest.

However, the self-made tapes of his crimes will not be destroyed because he will technically be eligible for parole in 25 years and the tapes will be used against him at the hearings. Their destruction would increase the likelihood of his release in 25+ years.

    @ largeamount
I agree. Compare the "disrespect" to the workers by destroying the symbol of their skill and labor to the pain that the families of the murdered girls feel regarding the symbolism of the truck used to kidnap their loved ones and dispose of the bodies. I'm dumbfounded by the "compassion" for the workers who built the truck but obliviousness to the families of the victims.

    You're not serious right?

The people who made the truck got paid years ago for it, pretty sure if they knew they wouldn't care whatsoever.

Does anyone remember that kid who got his head cut off on a Greyhound bus in Canada? After which the man who did it ate pieces of the guys heart, eyes, and skin, then walked around showing off the severed head to the other passengers who were standing outside stranded on the side of the road.

Greyhound reupholstered the bus and gave it a new number. It's still in operation today and no one knows they could be on it. A much more heinous crime. Greyhound must be hard up.

Still, that just seems wrong, on a few levels.

If it was a train yea, a plane maybe, but a bus...

The Greyhound busses are around $180 grand each, to start with. Would you buy a home or truck knowing someone died in it? I beleive in spiritual hauntings, and I think I'd have a problem with it.

You guys are amazing. I bet you believe in ghosts and hauntings. A truck is a truck is a truck. You turn the key in the ignition, the starter motor turns the crankshaft, you release the brake and put it in gear, and it rolls down the road. All the rest is in your feverish little imaginations.

Logan: So what happened to reduce/reuse/recycle? Of course I'd buy a home or truck knowing someone died in it. Not that I'd know, of course. Who do you think provides a lot of the donations of clothing and furniture to second hand stores? The dead, that's who. Get used to it. I jog by the cemetery every day, and no goblins have ever reached out and bit me yet.

Somehow, the fact that you believe in haunting doesn't come as much of a surprise.

So? What's wrong with that? Freedom of opinion, man.

I don't have a problem with a truck if someone died in it. BTDT. Bought a truck an old man died in. So what? But something someone murdered others in, or raped them, to me that's just plain spooky.

Nothing happened to it. I decide not to buy it, yet you do, and you do. So, there ya go. You're reusing it. Not me. Besides, if it gets crushed, it gets recycled.

It is what it is. But if you found out that someone did multiple rapes & murders in the home you're about to buy, would you buy it? I wouldn't.

    So?

    YET.... lol!

You sure do seem rather offended that my opinion is different than yours. Such is life. Get over it.

I might worry about it, if your opinion were in any way significant.

Ever think of allowing the government to sell it at auction to someone who could get many useful years of service out of a well made vehicle? Or exchange it to me for my 1989 Toyota Tercel, which is also a quality product.

The crusher reduces $25,000 of truck to $200 of scrap metal (values approximate) in a few seconds so that winners (if that's the word) like Logan won't have to worry about ghosts and hauntings, if I understand his argument correctly.

You've clearly never experienced anything uncomfortable of a metaphysical nature.

I experienced many extremely uncomfortable moments in my old apartment. I found out before I moved out of the place that a child had been raped a couple years earlier in what was my bedroom. That explained a lot.

nope..I like of idea of just crushing it

nope..if you want a nice one you can go buy one like everyone else

the crushing place removes converters...aluminum engines..aluminum wheels ....transmission ...tires ..etc...

they'll actually get around $800-$1000 for the metals if they do it right
