Much of our modern day society has been influenced by past actions. Many of those past actions took place a while ago, and their influence has started to become outdated. In my unprofessional opinion it is time that the pot was stirred once again. Does anyone else think this, and if so how do we go about doing this? I am aware that in the 60s many of the things they did were influenced by public opinion, and worldly influence. Today, I dont see those sort of issues, so how do we create a change in today's society?
Remember that the 60s hippies weren't trying to start a movement. It just sort of happened. I just recently saw a documentary called Favela Rising that I am raving about. It is about an organisation called Afroreggae that is using music and art to fight drug violence in the slums of Rio Di Janero Brazil. In the special features they show one of the main people behind Afroreggae, Anderson Sa was interviewed and asked how we here can help. His response was "Forget about Brazil. You have favelas in your own country go to the one nearest you and help out." That's how it starts. Maybe it is just you at first. Talk to your friends a little. then it gets a little bigger. As for movements. I loathe that term for the Hippie thing. A movement is something with a concrete beginning and end. What was the date of the beginning of the "Hippie Movement"? What was the date of the end? There have always been bohemian underground movements. There will always be them. Hippie was just a name given to that particular underground movement at that time. It was just a continuation of the beats. Who were just a combination of the Transcendentalists and the existentialists. It keeps getting new names but it truly is the same old shit. It's just that new people keep coming to the party and bringing new shit. Peace Out, Rev J
