A year ago, I was normal. I had curves, I exercised, I was healthy and muscular.
What is this decade going to start with? wasted youth? It's gotten out of control, to the cigarettes to the not eating to the being depressed. I thought this brainwashing problem was strictly for younger teens, but I guess not.
I find myself overweight. Looking at those fashion models in *fashionable* clothing is just one example of how media is showing us what to look like and what is truly beautiful. What gets me is, if they made *fashionable* clothing for curvy girls, would EVERYONE go curvy?
Because this is unhealthy. I am 20 years old and I am not fucking counting my calories, I CAN eat fast food if I want to. I DON'T need to starve myself.
Fuck the society I live in. :(

Your problem is your own personal biases. You're so affected by the media's standards of what is normal that you no longer accept yourself and instead see something you don't like. That's your fault.

Did you gain weight? Did you start smoking more? Did you lose muscle? If yes to any of those, whose fault is that? Who gives in to the brainwash?

If you didn't buy those magazines and allow yourself to be brainwashed by the media would you feel bad about your appearance?

The last part of your post was more realistic. The society you live in will always be the way it is and its opinions will always be biased. You can choose not to live in that society, not to hold yourself up to that society's light, and you can choose to not define yourself by its standards. You can have your own opinions of what you are, and they'll always be more accurate than society's opinions of what you are.

No. I am saying I myself am brainwashed, and my point was I never used to be until this past year. Apparently, I haven't changed at all. I am a dancer, and I smoke socially like I did before.
Its the internet, everyone lives on it now. Theres no denying there, and just doing a simple thing like blogging can scar you.
Its just. BAH. You wouldn't understand. You're not a female, and you've never gone through it. Of course guys would think its nuts, of course. Because it is, but that doesn't make it any less important to women who have this issue.
Which is why I put it in the women issues thread, too see if anyone around my age can relate. but, thanks.

    'i was normal'

you have a negative mindset, why is being a bit heavier not normal? because an airbrushed pic is more aesthetically pleasing, what a pile of crap. beauty fades, if people judge you by looks their opinion is not worthy to care about.

you have control of your brain, learn to be positive. it can be hard but if you just decide 'i'm brainwashed i can't change' you're giving up and making it hard.

for example with smoking they make out quitting is really hard, if you think like that you believe it's hard which makes it much harder to quit cos you've decided it is.

I've hit on you so much that you've stopped replying.
I mentioned you once in a story to my girlfriend (who I often read the forums with) and she goes "The perfect looking girl?"

You are the creator of your reality, you are the perciever and the life giver to what you believe is possible. You are God making all of this up in your own mind just as I am making a personal note in my own self created universe. We are one and nothing separates us no matter how hard you think we're not.

People are overweight, people smoke, etc. Who decides those people are "undesireable"? The media. If you choose to buy into it, then that's your real problem.

I'm sure I understand, I've gained plenty of weight in the past, I smoked for years. I have a penis, not a vagina, does that really constitute a communication gap?

I understand that women take their appearance seriously. Some men do as well. What's nuts is allowing yourself to become the victim of the media.

You define who you are as a person, no one else. If you decide that you're unattractive or undesireable because the media says so, I can't help but feel bad for you.

What i said earlier: Because this is unhealthy. I am 20 years old and I am not fucking counting my calories, I CAN eat fast food if I want to. I DON'T need to starve myself.

*Note: I never said I couldn't change. I am only just saying that it sucks.*

:willy_nilly::willy_nilly: Godddd. Feel bad for me, I and many other young women are going through the same struggle. I never thought posting this in the woman's issues thread I'd get bombarded with male's saying they feel bad and how I should define myself.

This is why I never make threads. I'm sad now.

You don't seem to really know what the problem is. Is it you have a bad self image and want people to tell you that you're attractive? Or is it you feel bad that you've been brainwashed by the media?

If it's the first, I'll gladly leave. If it's the latter I'll gladly support you in that the media's depiction of what is attractive is disgusting and skewed.

Just a FYI, as a avid blogger, (what, are you going to tell me to stop blogging too?) this is the type of pictures that pop up on my dashboard, and this is an example of what I see everyday:

I feel disgusted in myself. I fucking hate it. I'm struggling. I fucking hate how the media destroys people.

The girl world is pretty fucked up. Most of my friends have OCD about some type of health problem. It's just gotten out of hand, and i'm disgusted in myself for caving in on it.

There are pictures of "beatiful" people everywhere. It seems as though you've just realised this.

The best thing to do is ignore them because they're either A) inaccurate or B) Photoshopped.

You're disgusted with the way the media "destroys" people.

Instant solution: Don't pay attention to the media. It's all made up anyways.

I dont listen to media, I got an eating disorder, from friends and family members saying I was fat, I didnt even watch mtv till last year. NO JOke, and i am 24, and that is complete garbage that mtv is!! I seriously think as women we take what anyone says about us, and we just internalize it, not all women do this, but some of us are more suspetible to it. I am pretty sure it runs in my genes. the way I fight the way I feel about myself, is I fight it everyday, and tell myself I am beautiful, that I am good just the way I am, that I dont need to be super thin to make myself happy, that I dont need it to cope.
I dont know if you have an eating disorder or not, or you just feel like the weight you gained is uncomfortable or unnatural to you, that is understandable. even those without eating disorders, can get what the hell is my body doing moments?? and I do all the time.
You can fight these evil thoughts, you can tell yourself you are beautiful, adn if you really dont believe it over time, of writing mantras good things about your body and repeating itself to you, every day, then you should just go see maybe an therapist or something. Women are way too critical of themselves, adn you shouldnt be, bc I have seen pictures of you, and you are so beautiful, and very small!!! Your mind can be your greatest strength if you let it, adn ignore outside influences on your precious mind. you are the one who can fight , that inner fight!! you can do it, need any help just pm me!!!

also if you feeling unhealthy, starving yourself is never the answer, as you know, You can get healthy by just focusing on eating right and exercising 3 times a week, and you would be surprised at how your self-esteem gets boosted, as long as you dont do it too excessively!!! : )

This discussion makes me think of how much I love when normal looking people manage to make it on TV. Like on some of the AMC shows lately.

    I miss when looking your age wasn't a career-ender =P
