    Hey everyone.

I have an opportunity to purchase a used 80 gb PS3 for $100.000. It comes with a controller and the A/V chords. It is from a close friend of my brother. He is also a friend of mine. It is not a backwards compatible version and has nothing wrong with it.

I am pretty sure it is this one^

    My questions are:

Are there any severe bugs with this particular version?

Are there any problems similar to the 360's "red ring of death?"

How long do you think this console will last/work for me?

    Is $100 a good deal?

Oh, and if I do purchase it, what game would you suggest for a first game?

    Thanks everyone!

Well, I have tehPS2 hooked up right now. I wasn't too worried about it not being backwards compatible.

Its worth it. My new slim was one of the first gens out and to get it out in time they outsourced the BD drive. Got a crap one. Would not play GoW3 or Red Dead Redemption, games froze up, etc etc. Sony wanted 150 to fix or replace. Told them to get fucked. Ordered the part off ebay, swapped it out myself (easy) and its been no problems since then. Spent a total of 70 when I could have spent only 40 and gotten the replacement lens. Totally worth it. Get it and I will slay you online =D

I had that model and it was back words compatable. I played old old PS1 games on it. You might have to do some configuration, but its very easy. I bought it when they were first released and ran it everyday for several hours sometimes. Just 2 months ago it died on me. I believe due to dust since my floors were wood. I took good care of it and had no problems up until that day. Id recommend a PS3 to anyone. The newer PS3 that are being released are half the weight/size as the 80gig pic you have shown. They wont play old games though. I don't ever get rid of my systems and i don't have a problem. Take care of your game and it will do the same for you.

I think my Bro has that model and his still works fine as far as I know. From what I remember possibly some problems when playing online (like disconnecting, timeout, whatever) but no problems really specific to playing games that I can think. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 or 2 is a great place to start, God of War 3 I've heard is good but never owned it (based on the other it's really good though). Uncharted was pretty fun, I only played the first one which was really short but fun.

I have a PS3 and it works great. I've actually never had any problems with it. No major bugs, no death rings, etc. I've had it freeze on me ONCE. Beyond that, the most annoying thing is the frequent system and game updates - many of which are mandatory.

I highly recommend the purchase, as the price is outstanding. I paid $300 for my PS3 slim brand new, so $100 is a pretty decent markdown for a used system.

As for first game, it depends what kind of game you're into. :)

The original 80GB is what I have. You can tell it between the new one because the original has 4 USB slots.

I can't really say I dislike anything about my PS3... xD
