alright well id like to become more at peace with myself learn more about this whole psych. world that i am involved in. what would be some good books to read? i have lots of free time an i like the idea of educating myself and also learning about something i enjoy. ill take any and all recommendations even if they do not involve the psych world. i like books that contain facts things that can be learned life lessons an such. not much of a big nut for fiction books. so fiction would be best. but ill consider all as stated above going to borders tomorrow thanks guys.
Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra I haven't read it yet, but I've been meaning to. I think it contains what you're (I'm) looking for. Philosophy seems to be a good place to start when you want to understand yourself and the world you live in.
Food of the gods-Terrence Mckenna Breaking open the Head-Daniel Pinchbeck McKenna is arguably the best psychedelic philosopher and offers some interesting theories. Pinchbeck is kind of similar maybe slightly easier to relate to and includes an account of his trips as where McKenna basically sumarizes (but I prefer Mckenna) The psychedelic experience-Timothy Leary Acid Dreams- (A history of LSD, don't remember the author)
thanks guys cant wait to get some of these books. im going to read the free chapter of some that sound best an decide about 3 of them. the more ive seen peoples posts on here an the more influential they sound the more obligated i am to trying them. im out of work an school an i need something better to do then be a couch potato all day.
Acid Dreams is by Martin A. Lee & Bruce Shlain also good are LSD My Problem Child by Albert Hoffman Storming Heaven by Jay Stevens For a twisted and historical perspective: The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe
well today i purchased thus spoke zarathustra, siddhartha, and breaking open the head. so far there great read about a chapter or more in each before i bought them love them. going to finish up these then get some more thanks alot guys ill let you know how i like them
If you're gonna read a trip report read Alan Watts on LSD. http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/lsd/jcbody.htm as for books
The Book -- Alan Watts ^the very best and my favorite work altogether by watts. Basically it restarted my life in a time when I was a very broken and alone soul. Now I know better, but there was a time when I believed I was but a consciousness in a bag of skin, looking out through eye holes in a world I didnt understand. Now I know I am the all-being, as you are and everything that connects it. Tao Te Ching -- Lao Tzu Just something like 70 poems that can be knocked off in a day, or you can stay and ponder one for weeks at a time. Probably essential to read if your into the eastern thing. The Tao Of Physics -- Fritjof Capra ^A bit dry at times but it really helped me put into terms I can understand the essence of the reality of life. Slow at first but beautiful when you take it in as a whole, really opened my eyes to alternative education (Just by feeling eternal pules of the universe mystics have for thousands of years predicted the realities of our daily monotony, and how to deal with the problem of being. The Dancing Wu Li Masters -- Gary Zukav ^more along the same lines of Tao of physics, if your at all interested in learning the truth behind the interconnectedness of all being or are interested at all by popular science and physics without much understanding of the mathematics behind it, both these books should be just right for you. For the books others have recommend that I've read (spent 6 months in a mental institution, had a lot of time to read lol) Thus Spoke Zarathustra -- Turned out to be a bit to dry for me, plus I had to check a dictionary every 5 words so I only made it through the first book. Some of the Overmans speaches in the woods before we starts wandering and preaching are some of my favorite though. Food Of The Gods -- You know before I read it if you had told me you I would believe the stoned ape theory Id tell you you were in idiot but Mckenna knows how to make an argument. Not to mention its just flat out entertaining to read. The doors of Perception -- Had a hard time understanding his points at a time and it felt a bit busy but definitely worth a read, if not just for the historical importance.
A Seperate Reality - Carlos Castaneda (A great read on mescaline shamans) Be Here Now - Ram Dass My Big Toe - Tom Campbell (This book will explain the workings of consciousness and the universes as clearly and as logically as a math teacher explains math. --Read This!) The Book of Secrets - Osho (Read any Osho book, for every word he speaks will lift off your chest your false beliefs and delusions and bring you closer to yourself.) Have yet to read any of Terrence Mckenna's books, but I bet they are a great read as well.
wow my list keeps building an building im gonna be spending alot on books if anyone wants to sell some of these books pm me. i like to have the book as i like to highlight words i dont understand go back through the book again with the dictionary so i can learn more from them. just started siddhartha last night about half way through its very good a bit bland for my taste but defiantly interesting.
Programming the Universe by Seth Lloyd Hyperspace by Michio Kaku The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot These are three good books on the nature of reality.
