what the hell is a jamband anyway. all rock bands "jam" when they are on stage. they improvise, do long instrumental sets without much vocals sometimes.

maybe "jamband" refers more to the fanbase than the music?

Hey yea! thats a good question, would Led Zep be considered a Jam band? They played half hour long versions of many of their songs.

What about Steppenwolf with their half hour Pusher man?

and lets not forget Vanilla Fudge!

no way, Led Zep are rock n roll! jambands are more like, lets play over one riff for ages, it's much more about having fun i guess, it's not very deep music.
i'm not saying theres anything wrong with it, i love listening to it sometimes!!
dude, it's the greatest genre in your opinion, for me, experimental rock is at the top :p

check out the slip, and the bad plus... the bad plus aren't really a "jam band" per say, more of an acid-jazz band. they're on a level like mmw...

Particle, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Soulive, The New Deal and Topaz are also bands you should check out if you enjoy the jam band genre. OH and ABSOLUTELY, the Assembly of Dust, in my opinion the best song writing jam band on the circuit today.

you can't catogorise some music, which is good. man, i'm a musician, i try and make it as hard as possible for people to do that to me... yeah little richard was rock n roll, he was one of the guys who helped it grow!! but man, ya can't deny that Led Zep was one of the greatest rock n roll bands ever...
we shouldn't catogorise it, nevermind. :p
    Jaz

and mogwai are no way a jam band, thats the LAST thing i would have called them! :D *grins*

best "jamband" I have ever seen........ phil lesh and friends.

the whole show was one constant jam....... then they would fade into a certain song that people know like cosmic charlie, or scarlet begonias.... whatever. the only break they took was at the end of the sets.

The Allman's have had some legendary jams with the Grateful Dead. Besides those two, Phish is also pretty good.

Well then I guess The Mars Volta is a Jamband, when I saw them they seamlessly integrated all their songs, and made up new parts and new songs on the spot. They're a Jamband right?
