theres several listings on ic.org... or in the back of Communities magazine. washington's a haven for intentional communities. what region are you looking in? like up around the barter fairs? or more towards the coast?

Amen, I just found out I can't go to school for the rest of the year... so I'm looking for a change of pace. Whether that be a commune or traveling on the road. I don't ever recall actually coming across and IC, but I know they are here somewhere.

Unfortunately, our ocean current sweeps down from Alaska and doesn't help our temperatures much.

Fortunately, however, our winds are usually coming from the southwest and that does help.

In Western Washington, the sumers are mild and very pleasant. While the winters are dreary but tolerable; that is to say, you don't need snow tires or chains except in very few spots.

Are you aware of Guy Kohler's place, Rivendell Ranch? His place is near Aberdeen, I think, on the Washington coast. It was a working ranch, but I don't know if he still has animals. Last I knew, his plan was to develop the property into an IC. The land is there, it only needs people. If it weren't so rural, I'd be there in a heart beat.

Remember, the Washinton coast is very wet.
The only rain forest in the continental USA is on the coastal slopes of the Olympic Mnts.
Our little commune is on the eastern side of those Mnts. south of Port Townsend, and we get alot of rain.
But far less rain than the coast and even a little less than Seattle.

Like Owl Watches Bear, I've only heard of one commune near the coast, and that was Rivendale 10mi east of Aberdeen.
That was 10yrs ago however, and I never had the chance to go and check it out.
I wish I knew more about it.
