I'm considering a tattoo on my neck but im worried... i plan to live abroad for sometime and i dont want it to prohibit me from finding jobs. Also i may be thinking of a career in law... So here is my question:

do you think that neck tattoos are still socially unacceptable and will limit my future career options?

Also, if you have a tattoo on your neck id really like to hear from you! please tell me if you've ever been turned down for a job because of it, and tell me what the job was.

(mines not huge, but always visible) i assume it has a few times, but hasnt really affected me, ive always been able to find jobs and will actually be getting into law enforcement myself.

i think how acceptable it is depends on the area your in, its definitely getting more acceptable everywhere but theres always just ignorant assholes.
also i have really good people skills so maybe i counter them thinking im going to stab them by being nice, who knows.

oh and for the poll, "it depends on the employer" would probably be the most true.

It depends on the job, and where on your neck...the side, back, etc?
Mine is on the back of my neck. I did have a job that wanted me to grow my hair long enough to hide it, I had short hair at the time. I never grew it out, just to piss them off. I did not get fired, I actually got a few promotions with that company before I quit. [IMG]

It definitely depends on the job. Sadly, tattoos are not yet widely accepted in the workplace and it's true it will limit your employment options. Personally I've never seen a lawyer with a neck tattoo, but I've known doctors, veterinarians, and pro business people with full sleeves, legs and back pieces that they cover while at work. Also, like Nyxx said, it depends if it's on the back of your neck and you can hide it with your hair. All my tattoos are concealable so I cover up for the job interview and my bosses never find out I'm inked unless it comes up in casual conversation so it's never a problem. I've only had 2 jobs in my life that I didn't have to cover my tattoos - at the mall so the hours were shit and have to deal with rude people all day, and at a bakery where I had to wear a baker's jacket and long pants always so they got covered anyway lol It's always a compromise.

If you like having a job I'd definately not get a neck tattoo on the side.

Craig Ferguson said it best, "Nothings says 'I don't want this job' like a tattoo on the side of the neck."

Followed by, "Nothing says 'I love meth' like a tattoo on the side of the neck."

What about on your foot? Foot tattoos look cool and are kind of sexy.

just reaaalllyyy think about it!! i love tattoos, and I know people covered head to toe in tattoos, so I'm not saying i have a problem with tattoos on the neck. But alot of people do! just remember it will be there forever!! My friends ex-boyfriend has one on his neck and he can't get into some pubs or nightclubs because they think he's trouble!!!

he wanted it removed nearly as soon as he got it done! but it way more expensive to get them removed than it is to actually get them.

tattoos on the hands and neck are always risky!! really think about it first, because i think it may effect your career unfortunately :(

I like tattoos on the back on the neck, but I don't particularly like them anywhere else on the neck, and yeah for work it would be tricky.

Neck tattoo can be considered "gang related" depending on where you get them on the neck. If you get them on the back of the beck then this is exceptable, but if you get them on the side or the throat then this is not overly acceptable.

It depends on the job imo, any job where you have to wear a suit and give presentations, then it will probably lower chances of getting that job, but I'd say some jobs could be ok with it.

I have one on the back of my neck, my hair covers it most of the time and people do not know it is there. My wrist tattoos have been more of a problem, because of my visable tattoos and piercings I have not had a job in 3 over 3 years.

I live in the middle of the bible belt so just about any time I walk out of the house i am being judged. But other places i have been are not so harsh when it comes to body mods.
IMO if its the back of your neck you will most likley be ok unless you have to have your hair in a hat or a bun for some reason
If you are set on a certin job i would make sure it is ok in your area.
