Bit of a weird question, but how can I get really healthy, and I'm not just talking about keeping fit, but what kinds of food should I be eating more and less of, and which foods contain antioxidants and all the things I need. And other stuff like that. Reason for asking, just fed up of feeling unhealthy.
Start reading ingredients lists and only buy items whose lists include only ingredients that are food and not chemicals to color, preserve, and enhance flavor of something. Be wary of sugars and learn the many forms that sugar takes in food. In my opinion you should also be wary of dairy... milk products (milk, cheeses, cream, butter, etc.). The fat and calorie density in milk makes it suitable as nourishment for young and growing bodies, not adults. Apart from that keep a common sense balance of nutrients and your protein/carb/fat balance. If you want to pack on muscle, increase calories- particularly those coming from protein. Stay active. The human body was not meant to be sedentary.
each day I eat one whole box of Kiggins™ Healthy Measures Toasted Rice Cereal, it 77grams of protein totally.. actually only cost 2dollars a box.. you think you might get tired of eating cereal like that all the time, but I dont. In order for me to maintain my weight and stamina, I have to eat like that... cereal is one the best food for you.. I have regular meals too.. but each day I finish off a whole box of "this" cereal and 1/2 gallon of milk, I dont use sugar I use honey,.. I weigh 160lbs, as long my ms isnt acting up, I could run a million circles around most healthy 20 yr old.. I tried special K and lost weight, and no cereal with 100% vitamins and minerals, best to keep with 25/45% vitamins and minerals this why your not over dosing on things like iron, which can harden stool and lessen agility by causing constipation..
make it easy on yourself by trying to take small steps forward - more whole foods - fewer processed foods - more water - less of other fluids - more healthy fats etc you get the point good health can be simple
eat breads made of whole grains more fruits and vegetables limit intake of fried foods, soda and really greasy foods eat out less drink lots of water
Here are a couple suggestions to consider... Instead of driving, walk. And walk every day to your closest food store to purchase what you'll eat the next day, if at all possible... I bought a hand truck from the office supply store and put a paste board box on the bottom and secure it with twine that makes a dandy pull behind stow space for your food items. And too, know the difference between ~food~ and eating stuffs. Eating stuffs are things you stuff in the mouth without much thought. Food is prepared with health in mind..
i'm sorry but, when i read this, i got a good chuckle. to answer your question though. your either healthy or your unhealthy... there is no middle ground there. you will need to go to the doc and, have a physical run on you, to determine if you are healthy or unhealthy. you can eat all the junk food and smoke as much as you untill... your hit by something big time, like a heart attack for, that type of lifestyle choice then, you will go from being healthy to, being un-healthy in a blink of an eye! "feeling unhealthy" is not the same thing as being unhealthy. that needs to be checked out! go to the doc and, tell them what is going down with you. you might consider that, the reason you "feel unhealthy" could be psychological. i really can't add anything more, upon what others have already said here. i still think you should see the doc, to rule out there is nothing really big time bad going down with you.
What helped me was -becoming vegetarian -only eat biological food so all my allergies I had before as well as asthma disappeared 15 years ago when I changed that.
A good rule of thumb to follow is to include a variety of colors into each meal. Different colored vegetables provide different nutrients. Eat fruit for snacks instead of junk food. Limit red meat, eat plenty of fish. switch from white bread to wheat. Eating healthy is a complete lifestyle change. You have to set aside time to plan meals and cook them. Its harder than just going through a drive thru on your lunch hour. But if you start by making small changes, such as switching to wheat bread, eventually all these little habits will build up until its just second nature to choose healthy foods instead of unhealthy. As far as exercise, find something you enjoy doing and do it because you love it and it brings you pleasure, not because you feel like you have to work out. I dance around my house pretty much every day because I constantly have music playing. I hike every weekend because I love being outdoors. I do yoga because it feels fucking incredible and helps me unwind, i swim because who doesn't like swimming? I do all these activities because they bring me pleasure; the fact that they're also considered exercise is really just an added bonus. Maintaining an active lifestyle simply by doing the things you love to do is really the only way to maintain an active lifestyle longterm. Otherwise you'll burn out or get bored. Also, herbal teas. Lots and lots of herbal teas. Ive been drinking a herbal tea that has a blend of eleuthro and various other herbs. After drinking it every day for about two weeks, I started to notice it was giving me insane amounts of natural energy to the point where it almost seemed like too much; since I started drinking that tea I pretty much can stay active from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep and I never get worn out in between. I started to wonder about that so I did some research on eleuthro and found out it is used to help the body combat physical stress and also as a source of natural energy. There are a million other teas out there containing herbs that are equally as beneficial.
you piss out most excess vitamins so if you get your vitamin C allowance in your daily diet its not really neccessary to take a supplement.
your vitamin c allowance? wow no offense meliai but your obviously speaking directly from your ass you can not get nearly enough vitamin c (if your trying to boost your immune system) from food/ juice...
Excuse me but I am not speaking from my ass. I work in the medical field so I think I know what I'm talking about. Our body requires a certain amount of a variety of vitamins each day. This is what is referred to as our dietary allowance, since it seems like you did not understand that term. Once that dietary allowance is exceeded, the human body generally has no use for the excess and so it discards it in urine. The exception with vitamin C being when our immune system is weakened from a cold or other virus, vitamin C intake should be increased. Even then, the body will discard any that the body doesn't use. In a study done at the National Institute for Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases, it was found that the average man needs 200 mg of vitamin C every day. This is the point where the immune cells were saturated with vitamin C. Saturated being the key word there. Do you understand what that means? If the immune system is saturated with vitamin C then obviously it can't take in any more, so its going to flush it out. It was found that when a man takes 400 mg of vitamin C a day he retains no more than 200 mg, and in fact high dosages can actually be dangerous and lead to an increase in kidney stones. So in fact, you actually can get enough vitamin C. here is a reference http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0813/is_n5_v23/ai_18362805/ So it appears I am not the one talking out of my ass. You should check your facts before you respond with rudeness, because it ends up making you look stupid.
well i know people with personal experience of taking no less than 1 gram of vitamin c a day who are old and healthier than fuck and never get sick many respected doctors and scientists say that if you take 400-500mg twice a day everyday that it will prevent cancer the Nobel Prize winning chemist Linus Pauling suggests at least 1000 mg a day... medical field melai disagrees ... oh well believe whatever you want
Linus Pauling conducted his studies in the 1960s, most of them have proven to be flawed since then. He made a lot of money from writing books about Vitamin C benefits. He also died from prostate cancer. I have no doubt that vitamin C prevents cancer. Its a requirement for the human body and its also an antioxidant. However, that doesn't change the fact that once a person's cells become saturated with vitamin C, the rest is flushed out. (by the way, the reason it is flushed out is because vitamin c is water soluable so it cannot be stored in fat cells.) It doesn't really matter if you believe that or not. Taking excess vitamin C won't really hurt you. But if you eat a well-balanced diet, a supplement is really not neccessary. You should get all of your required vitamin C from your diet. Just don't start believing it with Vitamin A, because a build up of vitamin A in the blood is bad news bears.
EAT BREAKFAST. something with whole grains, it's great for your fiber intake so that you have regular bowl movements which can say a lot when it comes to your health. eat fruit between meals.. find a fruit tree around you, it's free and most probably free of harmful chemicals! mix homemade jams through organic bio dynamic yogurt to make flavoured yogurt instead of having artificial flavourings cook regularly, if not everyday. it's very easy to by a quick fix but these foods generally have no benefits for your body and don't leave you feeling at your best. AVOID FAST FOODS!! you know when you read ingredients and it has a bundle of numbers everywhere? unless you're a fanatic, you're not going to know what they mean! i carry this book around with me when i go shopping: http://www.lowtonoadditives.com/ because at the back it has all those numbers and what they are and how they will effect you. this was so eye opening to me, you realise how much garbage is in the majority of food! take your time when shopping, make sure the products you're buying are free of harmful chemicals, additives, pesticides - i have found that avoiding these have made me feel better, i sleep well, wake up easily, and have energy all day round. if you can - Eat organic and purchase local foods. Herbal teas are great, research what teas are good for what, if you find any community markets. have a look to see if anyone is selling homemade herbal tea. (or of course you can make them yourself) Be awake and stay aware of what you are putting into your body.. once you start looking around and educating yourself it becomes easy to know what to do. it will be hard to break old habits, but totally worth it. I love yoga and long walks as my meditation/exercise.. find an activity you enjoy that will keep your body active. You don't have to jog everyday or attend the gym.. there are small changes you could make to balance this out.
