I just saw this movie for the first time tonight....... I liked it alot actually. But one thing I did not understand was why the birds were there and all that...... I know Hitchcock did that on purpose with his movie, you know, like a "figure it out yourself" mysterious unanswcered question, but I want to know what your theories are. My theory has to do with the love birds being caged by that women (damn, forgot her name already)........the main character. Sort of like, it was a symbol as to why the birds were there terrorizing everyone.....because man has caged bird. But I am an animal lover who doesnt believe in caging animals so maybe that is why I took that perspective. Anyway, maybe there is a clear answcer, or just lots of theorys, but I want to hear yours
I really liked The Birds! As for the theory... I don't know, it could be anything. With Hitchcock, you never know. He likes to leave people in the dark sometimes. Maybe it was the woman herself, like she was evil or something. That's what I always thought, cos in the movie it says how the problems started when she arrived... animals have a sort of sixth-sense about people, right? I dunno. All I do know is that it was creepy and well-done. I love the part with the jungle gym, that was awesome. I remember sitting there going OMG don't sit in front of that! Don't sit in front of that! hahaha
Excellent movie. I think Alfred Hitchcock was a genius when it came to his movies and directing them.
Ya that movie is truly insane. Not his best film in my opinon, but up there definitly. You just don't see that in movies now-a-days. It's all about the gore and the pain and the shock value (not that I don't love that). The days of good old fashioned head trips like a park full of birds staring at you have since past.
personally, i think "rope" is genius. I liked the book for the birds (yes it exists) it was alot mroe entertaining than the movie.
I've never been able to bring myself to watch the birds - I have kind of a phobia of birds in general - i can't stand being too close, so think I'd probably shit myself in terror and then die if I watched I know being scared of birds is RIDICULOUS but i get all panicky when I think about them getting stressy - urgh, I get the heebies just thinking about acting in that film
I love Hitchcock and The Birds was awesomely done. The scene where the gas tank explodes and they pan waaaaay up. Genuis. Same for Psycho; when Janet Leith is laying on the bathroom floor with her eyes open. Geesh that's creepy.
In a way, I agree with Elle; those caged birds could be the cause. But I also remember that the birds, as the very beginning, are already circling the town in the sky before the love-birds are even introduced. Hmm... Then again, I like to leave the answers unanswered. Why would I need a reason for the attacks? Maybe there is no reason... Oh, and I, too, believe Rope is one of his stronger efforts, up there with Vertigo, Rebecca, and Rear Window. Peace
I agree. Excellent movie. Alfred Hitchcock was a genius. Hehe, and I have to laugh when I think of the Celebrity Deathmatch between him and Steven Spielberg. Alfred Hitchcock won of course... If you can find that episode online somewhere, download it and watch it. It was great.
I've seen the birds like a million times, but now that I think about it... I don't even remember what it was about. I just remember the birds attacking the town. Damn... that really aggravates me. Anyways, has anyone seen Rear Window? Best Hitchcock Ever.
I thought the way he did the movie was great (all the directing was good) but, i didn't like the actual movie. It had way too weak of a plot (and concept for that matter) and it didn't excite me at all. Someone said all the remember was birds were attacking a town, that is basically the plot, right there.
