Several times i have been assumed to be male, especially when i rant about the chemistry of DMT . . . The chat room is filled with incredible people, some of whom are really good and neat folks and some of whom are amazing assholes. Someone who didn't know me at all but disagreed with something i posted (based not only on heavy research but personal experience) assumed i was a teenage male. LOL! i say if you do not know much about a person, then to make any assumption about their age, race, gender, orientation, belief system, education level, socio-economic status or political leanings is basically just making an ass out of you. People who do this wouldn't bother to check gender identification notes next to a post anyway. Wouldn't help.
I think it's perfectly natural for most to build up a profile of the people that they interact with, on or offline. I still remember everyone that didn't know me well in middle school being awed when they heard me swear, simply because I was a good student, and all my friends being like "are you fucking kidding me, he never stops"
This is the key . . .to just being a natural person rather than an asshole. Take a little time to interact before building the profile. Difficult and counter to everything our culture has pounded into us, yet worthy of attempting . . .
I think some people here actually enjoy the sexual obscurity offered them in places like this.. Don't get me wrong, this forum seems to be incredible accepting and tolerant (I love the atmosphere here). But i think when it comes to ones individual sexuality, Some may be unprepared to come right out. Instead hope to stumble into those situations where they can explore their thoughts/feelings as prompted or provoked by others.. Make it easier to deal with their own lack of self acceptance..
Besides, are you telling me *one guy* came in here and killed eight men with eight extremely well-aimed shots in just a few seconds? No way. Had to be at least two...
hmmm i tend to assume someone is male unless their posts/pics tell me otherwise. damn patriarchal society.
Many have always assumed I'm female. I can't count the number of times people have said, "I always though you were a girl," or have just referred to me as "her" or "she".
