i joined this site a few weeks ago because i got inspired by LSD ( and hallucinogens in general ). I was already a psych major and very deeply interested in the brain, happiness, and how we feel fulfilled, and enlightened. after a strong trip, i was blown away and fascinated. after HOURS and HOURS of research i do daily now, which has lead me to see the amazing potential for psychedelics used properly, i feel like ive finally compiled enough data to start writing about the subject. i probably wont publish this for years, and it will be drastically different through many revisions, but i think ive got a solid thesis and a great body of literature to write from. Here it is so far: Working title I write these notes because I want to help the world. I feel like LSD and other hallucinogens are a true source of benefit for the human species. Under careful supervision with an empathetic careful honest guide, a person can receive great benefit to more basic elements of life, often in just one use. These seemingly small things make a large improvement and often bigger problems that require almost any therapy can be made progress on in shorter amounts of time. Years of therapy is done in weeks. Additionally, these drugs have a minute weight, measured in doses of 50-600ug ( micrograms). This is much smaller than most prescriptions. The drugs have zero detectable effect on the physiology, huge doses that are way more than a human would ever take are needed to cause respiratory arrest in (rates or mice)?. Because of these astoundingly positive effects seen In the GREAT majority ( even more so of carefully prepared and guided individuals) research on LSD and other hallucinogens should be first and foremost, but under strict control and in the hands of the most empathetic of therapists/guides. ( this is the thesis of the writing ^^^) LSD is a powerful drug. Therin lies its potential, and the fear it generates. A staggering amount of sensationalized bad press plagues its image. The unusually diverse and positive research information is much less publicized and rarely reaches the media. It is understandable that something with the power to change a persons consciousness would be feared. We often tend to fear what we do not understand. Unfortunately, the reaction we had to our fear was perfectly counter-intuitive. We immediately halted all the scientific research being done ( to great avail ) and the drug moved wholly into the street. If the drug was seen as a potential threat then why wasn't trying to gain understanding? It seems strange that we would prefer to remain in the dark about a drug with so much potential, especially if it could also be a problem in the public. It would be intuitive to want to have as good of an understanding of the drug in order to help those misusing the drug and raise awareness. Time itself decided to do some backtracking, stating ".. . no responsible authority wants to stop research into the potentially vast possibilities of LSD and other 'mind drugs.' ( source pages etc) This is especially true when you consider that the laboratories and scientists/psychologists were discovering exceedingly unique and drastically positive effects. Amazingly, the drug that was becoming a monster of evil on the streets was performing near-miracles in the hands of the careful and empathetic. The reason for this comes from the mind-expanding properties of the drug. The word “psychedelic” translates literally to Mind-Manifesting”. The effects of LSD are varied and often unpredictable, but the same basic effects are practically universal. Under its effects, a person becomes more aware of their own thinking, and becomes introspective in general, especially if guided. Barriers in the mind break down, blocks are often dissolved. This allows for a freedom of thought that applies to every aspect of thought. You remain clearly conscious for the entire “trip” and remember events vividly. Because of the openness a person feels, they can see their problem from a new and fresh perspective, and often leads to a real understanding of how to change or approach their issue. Often they are small things, but they really make a large difference in the life of the user. plenty of errors and im almost definitely going to re-write the whole thing a few times. it sounds a tiny bit biased, and i need to solidify it and make it a bit clearer and more cohesive. its really just a starting point. and maybe i should have the intro describe lsd first and then the controversy of the 60s. this is only an Hours worth of work
