I hear talk of $10-20 dollar ounces and whatnot and I have heard of people smoking an ounce with their friends throughout the course of a night. How long would weed last you in the 60's and 70's?
in 70s i was getting panama red for 20 a ounce. it could be smoked in 1 night by 4 ppl easily. ah hthose were the days a nickel was a quarter, dime a half and those sweet lids were 3 quarters. 5,10, 15 how in the world did a dime become less than a gram and more than 10 bucks? we can think up wonderful names for the weed .ie alskan purple thunderfuck, but cant think up a new dime?sigh time to smoke a 5 dollar bong hit
From about '74 when I first started to about '76 I could get Mexican "commercial" for $10 an ounce, hash, $10 gram, oil $10 for 10 mil vial. I did buy a kilo brick once for $160 that yielded 42 ounces. Around '76 is when I started seeing sinsemilla from mexico, Humbolt county and Fallbrook. That usually went for $40-$100 an ounce. There was also a lot of Columbian of various grades around as well and ranged from $40-$60 an ounce. Thai stick was also abundant at about $15-$20 dollars a stick (about 2 grams) or $160-$200 an ounce. My first encounter with "Skunk weed" was about '78 and that was $150 an ounce. How long it lasted depended on how good it was really. $10/ounce mex we could smoke close to an ounce in a night between 5-6 people. Columbian an ounce would last a week simply because if you tried to smoke an ounce in a night you would pass out
Only bought a dime a few times. Why bother when a full oz was $20.00. A lb ranged from $140 - 175. We always called a lid one full ounce. You could go through a lid in a night with 4 smoking - but that's some serious tokin - a full bottle of visine night. Mostly a lid would last me a coupla weeks. You have to take into account how much you wanted to smoke and how many people. Two doobies was just about enough usually for a good high. I remember one night I ate some dynamite brownies - on the way home my eyes went completely dry. Couldn't even blink. OMG that was hard work.
It's funny I just saw "Last House on the Left" again. I couldn't get over the kid going, "I got an ounce of Colombian for $20." Man how times have changed. Since I usually smoke alone out of a bubbler with a tallboy I've been working on an eighth of Shipwreck for about 2 months. Peace Out, Rev J
Prices in the early 70s usually ranged from $15-20, the first time I heard about oz's selling for $25 I thought it had better be mind blowing shit, and it was! How long it lasted depended on the quality, how much shake was in it compared to how much buds (that's right, they didn't separate them) and how much of it was seeds and stems. A joint with seeds in it tended to go pop! pop! pop!
Almost exactly what I was going to say. The first $25 ounce I heard of was Colombian, and as soon as ppl discovered how much better it was than the usual, the price went right to $50. It was lighter colored, usually golden and gave you a completely different buzz than what we were smoking before. Of course there was lovely hashish too! Red Leb, moroccan blonde, afghani and nepalese temple balls. That is the order of pricing on it to. I remember paying $50 an ounce for great quality moroccan (in quantity). I think I once paid $80 for an oz of afghani that was exceptional. There was never a problem with a group of say six to 8 to polish off most of an oz of the cheap pot in an evening. That's what was so great about Colombian. It might cost more but it went way further. It was mostly buds with seeds. Any shake was usually good smoke too. So Colombian was the first bud only smokes and very sativa like in the high. A big improvement at the time. If you bought an oz of Colombian it would easily last a week, even sharing it with everyone you knew. It wasn't until the sinsemilla coming from California, and the Thai sticks that soldiers brought back after the Vietnam War that quality got even better. Again it's not really due to the cannabis getting stronger, just growers removing the undesired parts of the plant that made the pot seem stronger, leaves, stems and seeds, and it lasted longer too, so you get more for your money. The hashish sold in the 70s is little different from what is sold today in the ethnic regions it grew before. Many say the quality had declined since the 70s in places like Nepal and India, and maybe Afghanistan too. However in the West we have new ways of extracting the "resin" or tricomes, including Pollinators and Bubble Bags. These methods are usually cleaner than the traditional methods which often introduce adulterants and contaminants.
60s and 70s was pure, so less was more - Now, unless a trusted source could have anything added to it - Dilute the product may lengthen the quantity but not the quality eace:
It's a difficult question to answer. Due to alot of factors, one being that the quality of the weed varied depending upon the source and were you lived. There were alot of great strains out there as well as alot of real shit. It's hard to believe, but cannabis grew wild in the southern states and you could find it almost anywhere before it was all irradicated by the war on drugs. There were great sativas that were coming from Mexico but unfortuneately they weren't smoked by most people. Most dealers kept the good stuff to themselves. If they sold it, it was for a premium price. I saw some really good pot that was selling for 20-25$ a lid back in '67. It was the type of pot that most people thought was laced with something. I smoked some that was just as good as any LSD trip that I took- not as long but just as good. Skip was also right about the appearance of pot back then. If you removed the stems and the seeds and the fan leaves and just kept the buds, you'd be lucky if you had a good half of a lid. So to answer your question, the shit would last a night and the good stuff would last you weeks and that's tokin'up with friends. PAX
My hay day, late 60's through out the 70's, The pot i got was equal or better the todays medical... 1o.oo dollar ounces, 100.00 lbs. I had Gold, red, black' Green, Even back then we had pine smelling, ammonia/cat pee. Skunk. The best pot I ever had was Mexican, even of todays standards of medical pot. 100.00 a pound... Still smoking today' Well' over priced, under quality. Let's talk more...
In the early 60s, in SoCali. Weed was 10$ an oz. All the pot was priced the same. 200$ for a kelo, 2.2 lbs. There was so much of it and it was cheap so how would you keep track of how much you smoked. Everybody was passin', so it has lasted 48 yrs and counting. The beauty of it was, it was new. It was something that made you feel alright with your head tight, it was outta sight. Having nothing to compare it to, it was all good all the time. We didn't have to label the hell out of it. Who cared where it was manufactured. No one was a connoisseur yet bc we were all just starting out. We were all experimenting. When different strains of cannabis started making it's way to the states there was more variety and as the popularity escalated and the horizon bloomed the labels and prices changed. Just like everything. Supply and Demand. Today's prices are outrageous and I will not feed the machine. The government runs the machine.
Yer right man. I started buying weed in 67, I paid $15 an ounce-a pound was around $175-200 depending on the size of the pound (ha ha). Shameless, you are right , it was always pretty basic. You bought weed, you smoked it, you got high, and smoked more. Hash and Oil was just as cheep. $10 got 4 people way high. $5 got me two hits of acid I don't smoke anymore-I hear it isn't cheap anymore
