Made a post a while back asking about strange colours in my jars. Now that I have the cakes out, i can see they are just bits of vermiculite that were touching the sides of th jars. Looks like i didn't mix it all that well and there are a few places where there is just vermiculite. The bottom area is kind of compressed and shiny on a couple of them, but all white. All eight jars look to have gotten through it uncontaminated. i have them in a plastic box, the top of shich i have cut a large home in and glued some glass onto. I've made up my own humidifier rig. I have a fish air pump feeding a bubble stone inside of a half gallon milk jug. The jug is outside of the box the mushrooms are in and there is a hose going from the top of the jug into the box carrying fresh, moist air. i have a slanted drip shield in the box. I have abotu a half inch of perlite on the floor of the box and the cakes on a screen an inch above that. So thye should be getting a small but constant supply of fresh air, and a reasonable humidity level.. any opinions?
The setup sounds good but I would recommend you drill a few holes in your plastic container. What do you mean by reasonable humidity level? Also you may want to choose either just the perlite or go with your humidifier rig. Shotgun terrariums work because air is wicked up through the perlite which humidifies the terrarium. Without air wicking up through the perlite evaporation can happen too slow and the perlite can become a hotbed for contams. I've seen it go both ways though, entire grows ruined by mold and nice harvests with pretty decent flushes.
