I actually find a lot of his themes interesting, but I know what you mean, just because i like the man's music doesn't mean I have to give a shit about what he has to say.
I remember listening to him when I wanted to annoy my parents. Then came the ICP phase. And they were so much better.
Well, he benefited from having a top notch band behind him. Music wise, he's not that talented. But he had some very good songs, and I've heard worse singers
WAIT A SECOND WHAT!?!?! Better at music or better at annoying you're parents? I hope its the latter....
I think Manson is incredibly intelligient, and that is something that is very appearant if you watch any of his interviews. Its pretty rare that Bill O'Reilly shows anyone respect, but I got the feeling that Manson earned his respect in that interview. O'Reilly actually told him he was obviously a very intelligient person. I always enjoyed his music, but I'm not sure how I feel about the shock aspect of it. I think shock rock is a form of selling out..if you can't sell records through your music alone, you can certainly sell records by becoming a figure that is famous for being contraversial and polarizing. A person that puts so much focus on being different and being individual does not uphold his message by shocking people in order to earn as much money as possible, in my opinion. thats really my only problem with him, however. I actually like his views on religion. One line from a song off Holywood stands out (can't even remember the song name, but I always liked this line): "I never hated one true god. It was the god of the people I hated." I don't think Manson hates Christianity more than any other religion; that was the religion that hit closest to home for him so he used it as an example. I think Manson just hates organized religion in general. I do like his taste in women. Evan Rachel Wood is freakin gooorgeous. The age difference is a little freaky though
I just watched that interview with Bill O'Reilly and I don't think he is very intelligent, just a good marketer. Not that he doesn't have valid points. I just think anyone could sound intelligent debating with Bill O'Reilly of all folks... and I think "his" music is pretty generic. I say "his" because its really his band that makes the music what it is.
He is talented like many in the business. Dressing up and the acts he peforms are intersting, his point is to shock and entertain people. I don't find him to be strange but creative but it never drew me in though. Well people are his fans and I respect that but from reading some posts of him treating his bandmates badly, I'm not to happy about that because I love music and a true musician would respect their fellow music companions no matter what music category they are in. It just makes him look selfish and personally I can't tolerate people who act that way.
