so i got dreads yesturday on monday i did the back comb and palm roll technique, but i didnt get my ends done just yet i was wondering if i do my ends would that help actually secure my dreads because i am having trouble with them, but i know that is expected this is very very early, i know, i just am obsessed with dreads and I want to make sure I get everything done PERFECTLY i cannot wait for them to mature and stuff. i am in love with my head. so any tips and tricks you can think of to help me keep going would be sooooo so so so nice
My only advice is get rid of the perfect image in your head and accept your hair however it turns out.
umm i already said that i LOVED it. i dont have a perfect image in my head actually. i love how its going. i just want to make sure everything goes okay.
Some advice, don't get defensive in this thread. People will be assholes I learned the hard way. There isn't really any particular way to set the ends. Palm roll them, either way it's going to take awhile. I'm glad you love them, keep them. Another thing I learned the hard way now im starting over again..but you know, I kind of like it. My hair just looks really messy at this point. (Because it's shorter)...Anyways! goodluck on your journey.
Tips: -crochet the ends if it really bothers you -wear a hat for a few months -crochet a wool pillowcase -BE PATIENT!!!!!!! PS...dreads aren't perfect. Imo, the ones that are the least perfect are in fact the most perfect they gots some personality!
Keep your head clean!!! That's really the one piece of advice that is like super important. Everything else is honestly a matter of opinion. Different things work for different hairtypes and everyone has their little tricks. You love your hair so you're already in a really good space. Most everything else you could come back from (too thin, not the right color, too loopy, too loose, too thick....most of that you can tweak).
this is the problem people will have with your comment, this doesn't exist, it's hair, leave it alone, let its do its thing, wait a year maybe more then take a look in a mirror
yeah you said you want to make sure of something, and with locks you can never be sure. crochetin the ends at this point would be fruitless, wait a few months for that, but hopefully by then you wont want to do it. kinda looks lame in my opinion.
Ya I agree, the point is to be patient. Not everyone can handle dreads because they're too anxious for the results, I was that's why I realise my mistake and am starting again. Now i've learned a lesson in patience.
