contrail picture I took yesterday.. they protect us from the evil sun.. fuck off sun!!!! the air force is on duty..
What if we all built big female mech warriors who's giant wombs we could crawl into in case of such an emergency
Good morning, sounds like a plan. But I have to lumber some trees and build a raft before I can cross the ocean and reach Montana. But I guess we have lots of time then and it doesn't matter if I'm a twenty or thirty fortnights late for the gathering. Regards Gyro
the best places to be already exist, they called military bases.... check the map, they ain't built in sheltered spots near rivers for nothing trouble is they usually filled with fuckwit military type people
So basically no one else is interested in joining a gang of hit n’ run marauders out to pillage small communities for their meager supplies while beating their men senseless, terrorizing the elderly, and raping their women Hotwater
Where do you guys get your facts? Solar flares are extremely common, and CMEs occur fairly regularly too. You guys make it sound like you're going to be carpet bombed with nuclear weapons In the worst case of a truly stupendous CME you'll probably lose a few more satellites, (there are dozens of dead ones floating around already), have some power cuts (and if your grid is shit (like much of the US's), lose some more transformers due to induced DC currents on long lines), and get some fabulous aurora. A mere ion stream will not blow up all your electronics forever and send civilisation back to the stone age
You're just trying to sugar-coat NASA's warning that a solar flare similar to the carrington event of 1859 is looming over the horizon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPVikwA59-g"]YouTube - The solar flare of 1859 (Carrington Event) Hotwater
Not really, I'm just trying to point out that there's a lot of misinformation in this thread (the two comments I quoted stood out as the most egregious), and that as ever, the threat is exaggerated. There are also lots of juicy surprises "looming over the horizon".
Hello, look, this is RT. Why bother with facts? OK, let's see. If in the event of a CME the earth is hit by a heavy shower of charged particles, power blackouts are possible. And later on in this thread you used the term power grid. And that's what it is, a grid. At least here in old Europe. If the frequency in the grid drops a few thenths of a Hertz, because there is not enough power floating in it, the grid is split further and further until the power plants run only to produce the power for their own needs. If you switch off power plants like Cattenom in France without warning there might be suddenly not enough power in the grid and the depicted mechanism starts. Europe from the Arctic Circle down to Sicily becomes as dark as rural Africa. For some strange reason I hope to experience such a spectacle in my life span . Regards Gyro
Hello, Montana looks nice on the internet. But with you on my side the choice is easy. And thank all deities for the tunnel under the English Channel, we don't even have to wet out feet . Regards Gyro
Such widespread blackouts are usually temporary. In the UK at least, the national grid folks are aware of the effect of geomagnetic storms, etc, and simply shut off any transmission lines which have excessive currents induced on them. I would expect many other places would do the same. As for the "grid", Europe is not run as one continuous, synchronised grid, that would be a bit unwieldy, especially as the dimensions would start to approach the AC wavelength. So yes, geomagnetic storms could result in sections being shut down, though that would probably not bring it all down, the European grids tend to be more reliable than the North American ones on that front.
