I have pretty short hair ( almost to my shoulders) red, thick but not course. I REALLY want dreads but am a bit afraid of how silly I will look with inch long dreads. should I wait for my hair to get a bit longer, backcomb it now or do twisty dreads?

i assume by twisting you mean just twisting and not twist-n-rip. if you just twist hair that doesn't have a tight coil to it (like people of african decent tend to have) it probably will just come loose. backcomb may be the better of the two methods you mentioned for your hair type. twist-n-rip on the other hand may work for you as well as backcombing. there is always the neglect method.

please see the thread called "read this or risk getting flamed"

i think your dreads would be longer than an inch if you have shoulder length hair already...

I b/cmed my hair when it was shoulder length, but by gods it only shrunk 2 inches. Not TO one inch.

Anglo hair? Never heard that one before..
