Yes, by the time you are 18 you will have a legal right to make your own decisions and therefor your presence at a gathering shouldn't create any legal troubles for the gathering. Renting a car and parking it for a week would likely be very expensive. Beyond that, few rental companies are eager or even willing to rent to someone who's 18. Taxi would also be pricey. I would say bus or ride share might be best. Many people hitch, but I would not recommend this for two young girls who don't have experience hitching. I met a girl at a gathering who was about 18 or 19 who was planning to hitch around the country. I didn't worry about her though, since she told a story about being hasseled by a guy she had hitched with, and I guess she pulled out a knife and told him she would not hesitate to stab him. As the story goes, he pulled over and let her out pretty quick. You might want to set up a ride with family, but the ideal thing would be if you could meet them and get to know them in advance. If there's folks in NM who are planning to go to the gathering, that might be good. I've only been to a couple of gatherings, so I don't have the joe pro advice. At nationals this year, there were some mounted cops there when the gathering was at peak, but I don't recall seeing any at other times. Forrest service was out along the access roads. While most folks at the gathering will not be a problem, there's certainly an element that goes for the wrong reasons. Watch your back. I wouldn't be surprised if rape were more common on a college campus, but I've still heard of that happening. be smart and safe sister. i love you
There are many options on how to get to a rainbow gathering.People drive their cars in They may rent cars. Some people hitchhike or catch a freight train to get there. Some people take a bus or fly in .I've heard of some family that has bicycled or just walked to the gathering.I would not recomend renting a car and leaving it there because you usually pay for each day you have possesion of the car.If you stay 2 weeks ,you will have to pay for 14 days worth ,even though you may have only used it few days of driving. If you rent a car ,I would just drop it off at the nearest car rental from the gathering and either get a cab or hitch in.Then when it is time to leave ,Find a ride back to the car rental place and rent it and take off from there. You will save alot of money if you do it that way.Greyhound is another alternative.Sometimes the national is very close to the nerest bus station and you can find a ride from there. You will have to wait till the last minute to find out where the actual site will be.another good alternative is go on the ride boards and find some family out there that has an extra seat or 2 to take you.Alot of us rainbows use the rideboards.Just make sure the people you are going with seem okay.If this is your first time make sure you read all of the raps that are in welcome home.Thay are the rules of the gathering and are very important and it seems all the new family coming in arent learning the raps and it can cause problems. The raps are online at welcomehome.org.There are always lawenforcement at a national gathering, but we try to make the best relationships with them and cause no problems.Remember the gatherinig is not a big party .It is a world wide movement of praying for world peace and healing of the earth. We are positve people and show alot of love so some people take that as a wrong interpetation.Pleaase respect other family when there and don't bring any hard drugs or alcohol to main circle. It is direspectful.Anyways we welcome you Peace&Love !!! RainbowDave
LOL.yes it is totally practical...there is valet parking inside the 'main circle'...i believe savanah from 'death camp' is still in charge of the vehicles
yeah i wanted to hitchhike but my sister is too scared to. she thinks well get raped or killed. plus what if we dont findd anyone when we get there thats going?? urrrrgh idk . confusing.
I'd suggest take the greyhound to the city nearest the gathering that the greyhound bus goes to, and hitch from there. There'll undoubtedly be other rainbow ppl there and you should get your final short hitchhiking ride pretty easily. Flying is expensive, and personally I despise air travel post 9/11. Take the bus, it's cheaper, and nobody paws through your luggage or gives you a pat down and x-ray.
i cant condone you going if your own mom wont let you...thats not cool...hence the sarcasm.l...this site is about more than agreeing with everyone and saying good luck
Uhhh..Rolling, when she's 18, she's allowed to make all the bad decisions she wants to. I don't believe car rental companies will deal with anyone under 21...I know you'll need a credit card. How old is this sister? I have seen cabs drop people off at Front Gate. These people probably have more money than I do. You can find the Cuba site from year before last...how far is that from an airport? WA is likely to be just as remote. You will have many many moons to work out little details like how to get there....You don't even know where you're going yet, except somewhere in some National Forest in the State of Washington. You can spend your time between now and, say, mid-spring, by coming up with a really really cool name for your camp, and making a sign. Oh, yeah, cops...When you are out on some one lane dirt road umpteen dozen miles from nowhere, go around a turn, and all of a sudden see more cops from more different law enforcement agencies than you ever suspected the existence of, you know you're almost there.
that is such a good idea to make a sign and name the campsite!! omg im so excited!! and yeah i dont know i dont care how much it is, i have 450$ in my savings account that i was gonna use on am MGMT festival but now my parents wont let me go so im using it on this. plus im still working so i can save much more by then. and i was thinking last night, if it doesnt work out this year, ill have my whole life to go to one EVERY year once i actually have the proper means of getting there and a steady job and what not, and when i move out of my house. but you never know, i could die next winter. then ill never have gotten to experience it.
