Natures children are very hippyish. Normal and natural, hippy types are more in tune with nature, they tend to tune out corporatisms and aren't jacked around by social hype and peer pressures. They appear to me to be more confident and secure with self. Common sense rules. Sixtieschild
hippies are adult children that never learned to grow up and take care of themselves. instead of getting jobs and contributing to society, they sleep on people's couches and think they're gonna change the world by doing drugs and not wearing shoes. they wear repulsive clothes because it's anti-mainstream, though many of them still shop at hot topic in the mall. hippies hate their parents for no other reason than they are successful in life and have drive and motivation, of which the typical hippie will lack (unless of course we are talking about the business hippie, which is another classification altogether). they steal from their parents refrigerators while they aren't home and bring it back to the squat shack down the road for their friends to feast upon. hippies don't drink beer or liquor because, 'it's like, evil, man.' yet they have no problem ingesting marijuana, acid, mushrooms, and other weird chemicals. hippies hold extreme political views without any education on the matter or evidence to support their claims that the government and corporations are brainwashing people and making them spend money. you can tell that hippies are close to nature by observing the layers of crust around the feet and toenails. a good rule of thumb for telling how old a hippie is- count the rings of crust. each ring is about one year of hippiedom. note how the hippie's greasy hair hangs on his neck like a deep-fried peacock. this is because 'shampoo, is, like, a corporate ploy, man...' not to mention that it 'like, gives you cancer, man' typical hippie phrases : 'like, are you going to finish that sandwich, man?' or 'i'll trade you food stamps for like, some weed, man' or 'heyman! get your feet off the couch...that's, like, where i sleep, man....'
Thank you natural philosophy. :0) So what you're saying is.... we make the best use of available space and we typically conserve water and energy. And that we don't waste food. Nor are we impressionable or easily manipulated. And that we don't get upset over a little dirt around the collar. That we're wise enough to avoid corporate dangers and health hazards. And bold enough to stand up to the polititians with advice on how to live simply and conservatively. And you? You know how to count... How nice. Light and Love

Dude, I work 7 days a week and live 23,000 miles from my folks. I have my own place with my old lady and I shower every day. Even though I occasionally find myself in Hot Topic I generally find that place for wannabe Mall Punks. I am currently an attendant for 2 quadrapalegics and an 8 year old autistic boy. People that someone like Natural Philosophy probably would say aren't any good for society since they can't work and 2 of them still live with at least one of their parents. I work hard and I play hard once the work is done. I like making money because I like eating and sleeping indoors. I like Good Beer and a little bit of Good Pot but in moderation and not when I'm working. I'm not sleeping on my parents or anybody's couch (although it is my futon). I'm not dreaming about changing the world because I am changing the world for at least 3 other people. I am critical of the corperate structure and shop as locally as I can as often as I can. I realise that even the local places I shop have to ship in what they are selling so I also realise there is a compromise there. I'm sitting here using a computer that someone in Africa died over some of the minerals used to make it but really there is nothing I can do about that. I am about 98% pacifist as I don't believe that anybody is 100% pacifist and I can live with myself about that. I also believe that even though I am a pacifist not everybody needs to be. I also believe that since I'm a pacifist it does benefit me to have non pacifist friends because the rest of the world aren't pacifists. I don't judge. A hippie is someone who participated in the 60's hippie subculture. Hippies today are generally people who dream they participated or conform to what they think is hippie. There is no certain type of personality that makes a hippie as some seem to think, a hippie can be antisocial or can shower daily and also can just be as insecure as the next person. Actually, in a question about hippies you can generally replace the word hippie with human. 'Cause they're nothing more or less.
I don't mean to be an asshole but what your post doesn't take into account is the fact that alot of the old hippies had kids. And the ones who didn't sell out taught their kids the values that they developed. There were some of those kids who rebelled and others that figured out that it was allright. I do see alot of kids that come from upper middle class families that are rebelling against their folks shallow materialistic ways but will eventually fall back into them. Just as I listened to loud obnoxious punk rock and had an attitude problem when I was 15 but fell into the mellow beauty that I apprecite now. Some don't outgrow the "Hippie Phase". Peace Out, Rev J
I think everybody who truly thinks he/she's a hippie is one. The ones that eat at mcdonalds and like big cars may be concerned with human rights and the ones that dig pot and Pink floyd can be treehuggers but antisocial gaybashers. I mean, you can have a black and white view of what a hippie should be but we're all human in the first place. Edit: I do admit there probably aren't many gaybashers who likes to think of themselves as a hippie but still.
