Now there's a furor over this: http://www.examiner.com/independent...el-at-ground-zero-over-mosque-cultural-center .
An American bigot? No way! I bet that guy will want police protection afterwards...I'd personally just hand him over and let him explain himself.
I was going to make a joke about holding a Quran burning ceremony at the site of the new Islamic cultural center in NYC. But, reality beat me to it. Those two stories are now related for real. The church leader in Florida says he'll call off the burning of the Quran if the Islamic cultural center is moved away from the WTC site. These two stories are getting crazier by the hour. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100909/ap_on_re_us/quran_burning .
All of these death threats and book burning stuff could be avoided if the Islamic community would just build their cultural center at another location. What's wrong with that, they would still have their cultural center and no one would be offended anymore. PROBLEM SOLVED!
That doesn't solve the problem of them having to secure a new site (after years of trying to get this one), that could also be protested. It's sure easy to blame them, but they didn't ask for the protests.
I sense you do not find that an adequate excuse to appose the cultural center, but feel even if it is an unreasonable request, in the best interests of cohesion, the few should prevail. That does not seem that fair. Where does that logic end? If you personally find it offensive, could you explain why?
I don't think it's an unreasonable request,I think it's logical that if the cultural center was at another location their would be no excuse for people to burn the Koran and threaten to kill one another over this. No one said they can't build a cultural center, of course they can, they have every right to.But yes in the best interest of cohesion a different site would be better.
Mosques have been having troubles in other states as well. Kentucky recently made headlines that way.
I understand why it would seem easier. But then you piss off the people that have not done anything wrong and some on that side could retaliate.. You also then legitimise an unreasonable argument. So, yeah, so loons burn a Koran or two...some blokes did that: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-11396980 The end of the world? Nope. Death threats? How many death threats were there? You could say: "Life ain't fair, suck it up and move site". But, like I said, where does this logic end. I feel that there should not be a KFC near my house because the place stinks...and I can find 50 other people that in some way agree with me. Should KFC say: "OK, we will not open a site near you"? Stop being so easy going
