In the middle of a thread elsewhere on the forunms, the discussion suggested was

'Living in a utopian community away from mainstream society is like 'drinking reality away' in another form. Is it best to get away from the world or help change it?' Discuss :) xx

You can help the world by getting away from it- if you live in sustainable community you are helping the world by 'living lighter' on the planet

Your friends and family see the changes and you help educate others by being the change you see in the world..

Ive lived in many diverse communities all around the world-now i live in the city where I can make changes, within the structure of Babylon.

Yes life is harder on the outside, realize nothing is forever and you may well live in many different situations thru-out your life..

Good luck on your journey may you always have the strength to continue to work towards a utopia

I consider my fate to be innexorably intertwined with my species. I can't just walk away.

To be able to say screw it, and move somewhere and live with like minded people would be awesome. I think I could see myself doing it! One group and One goal.. sounds perfect.

If you're talking about the literal planet then yes. Socially, there are many people who are not a part of the global village we all live in.

I think that one can argue that the system is so dysfunctional that participation in it only serves to perpetuate its dysfunction.

At our intentional community we were talking about this last weekend.

One thing we thought was that a great deal of what is going on in the world is people failing to get along with each other - couples, neighbors, countries. A lot of what you learn (living in an IC) is how to get along with people. Things tend to go easier if you listen to others, consider their viewpoints, communicate with them, etc., and some of these things are skills you can learn and practice. So you could argue that a successful IC is like a school for successful human behavior - and to the extent that these skills and this information spreads outside the IC you are helping to change the world.

I see lots and lots of discussions about creating ICs that focus on a location ("I've got a great piece of land") or a business or a sustainable agriculture technology, but rarely any discussion about how to have the people get along with each other. I'm guessing this is one of the top reasons that ICs fail - and a huge percentage of them do fail. People are harder to get along with than you'd think.

Looks awesome, based on sensual and sexual emphasis on male and females, are you open to visitors? I shall be in the US possibly next year.

Ive lived, worked and visited many communities in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
Currently working on the foundations of http://rationaltrust.org/ educating myself along the way!
