I'm gonna suggest a couple of books: Don Wright's Guide to Free Campgrounds - Eastern & Western Edition Actually, all the campgrounds are not free anymore, they now include campgrounds $12 and under - but there are a TON of places in these books, and! it gives you the laws for each state about staying in rest areas! I think East of the Mississippi, Iowa has the most campgrounds listed with over 300 places. The more recent editions also give fishing advise. They cost about $18, but you can find them at the library too.
An interesting thread Here is a list of FREE CAMPGROUNDS thruout the country! Camping for RVs: www.freecampgrounds.com Although the ones i looked @ only had 1 day as the MAX DAYS ALLOWED And for all others (Tents, etc) http://www.eugenecarsey.com/camp/default.htm
Free campgrounds? Try the public lands like the Forest Service or BLM! No reservations needed, and you can stay up to 14 days in one place if you like.
