I'm considering asking my doctor to prescribe it to me. I have mild depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. I also suffer from alot of anxiety. So, tell me the bad and the good. Whatcha got?

Prozac was the first anti-depressant I was ever given. I took it for approximately two to four months in the summer of 2007. My dosage: 10 mg, once daily. At the time I was being treated for GAD and acute depression.

Like with many pills of its classification, Prozac had some pretty strong sexual side effects for me. It wasn't impossible to get off, but it was difficult and sometimes unsatisfying. :(

I also experienced the yawning, dry mouth, and nausea. These effects slowly tapered off after about a month.

Unfortunately, I never saw any of the benefits come to fruition. Maybe it's just not for me-- but all I experienced were side effects. I was moved to a battery of 3 or 4 medications shortly thereafter and never saw a bottle of the stuff again.

In a nutshell, while I didn't get a whole lot of POSITIVE from Prozac, the negative was totally manageable (even for someone new to anti-depressants)

I'd say it's worth trying if you think it can help you. Stranger things have happened. Best of luck in your search for the right tools for growth.

First your doctor won't prescribe it per your request. You have to be diagnosed with something that rthe doctor feels it would help.

It's an SSRI- Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor. It prevents certain neurotransmitters from interfering with the "good" transmitters. Or something like that.

The doctors had me on another SSRI that I found I did not need. Paxil. Very very similar to each other.

You will likely gain weight. The SSRIs tend to make your body retain water. And it's water that your body doesn't use.

My opinion, read the PM I sent you. I'm talking from experience. But ultimately it's up to you.

I got the same thing you got. I got OCD and anxiety. I have been offered all sorts of medication from several doctors but I always turn it down.

Medication if it does work does not cure you. I only masks the problem. Eventually after being on it a long time medication will stop working because of tolerance. Then you will be prescribed another one and another one. If you ever want to quit the medication you will have irreversible brain damage. you brain will never go back to how it used to be before the medication. many people who decide to quit using medication after using it for an extended period of time say they feel extremely weird.

If you are considering using medication then your first step should be to quit smoking weed. Weed actually makes OCD worse and makes your anxiety worse.

What I suggest is you quit smoking weed. I suggest you start running on a regular basis.

I used to have bad OCD. I eventually beat it. so I am very much against medication. Medication will make you have OCD forever but if you naturally work against it you will be fine.

OCD is best handled by modifying the habits into something useful ..don't fight them....steer them in a direction that is beneficial for you..it takes a while to figure out what direction but is well worth it when it finds its own way

Yeah everyone has their own way of helping it out. I notice a lot people like doing yard work that have OCD. Personally I find it relaxing too. Whenever I have to mow the lawn it's enjoyable for me. My best recommendation is whenever you finally are relaxed and the thought or whatever does not bother you find something that will keep you in the zone.

Also reading fiction novels I have found really helps out. I know in this day and age many people don't like reading because of movies and TV but if you give it some patience there are plenty of great stories at their. Trust me once you find a good story you will not want to put the book down. Some books start out boring and then get interesting.

    Ditto.
I have been living with my PTSD for well over 30 years.
    • Some doctors ignored treating it, even it's identified in their records.
    • A couple doctors put me on meds, that (with one doctor) had no effect, and the second doctor the stuff destroyed my health.
    • Counselors have told me it's imaginary, that I'm "letting it" affect me.
    • Women, when they find out, they treat me like I have the plague.
    • Because the cops think I'm crazy anyone can do anything to me, literally, and get away with it.
    • I have been fired, and I have no legal recourse.
    • I have been evicted, and when the USHUD and the state find out about my PTSD/disability, I am told I have no legal recourse.
    • I have been arrested numerous times, but unless I have tens of thousands of dollars to hire a lawyer, I have no legal recourse.
    • I have been harassed, and at best nothing happens. At worse *I* get a ticket.
    • I have been assaulted, and same thing- at best nothing happens and at worst I get a ticket. Last time, I did absolutely nothing when a man cornered me and assaulted me. He gets harassment charge and I get disorderly conduct. My charge is worse than his. WTF?
    • I recall too well one time I was kicked off of land I owned free and clear. Hunters. From Texas. And they even drew their guns on me. I called the sheriff from a neighboring ranch and the deputy that responded told me to leave the hunters alone or face getting arrested for harassment.

In the mean time, I just live with it. Last night I dealt with serious flashbacks for hours on end. Tonight, who knows. That's normal. For me anyhow.
