I was being kind of sarcastic guys... Obviously it's not like Dying Fetus or anything but it's very relavent to the coming up of the metal scene in that time.
http://www.storyofthestars.com/iron_butterfly.htm "Def Leppard once credited us as being the Father of Heavy Metal. The only reason I shy away from that reference is simply because I'm not convinced that I really like where heavy metal has gone." You guys need to headbang a little less.
Oh, excuse me!!! DEF LEPPARD said they're metal. Well shit, if some faggoty glam cock rockers said it, it's gotta be true. Yes, I always lend credence on the metal issues entirely to DEF LEPPARD. And Styx as well.
My point is that they were being called metal, likely before you were born. I'm not going to say Chuck Berry or Elvis isn't rock because they don't sound like 30 Seconds to Mars, or Afrika Bambaata isn't rap because he didn't sound like Weezy. You can't change the past based on the present; it's already happened. I don't like Def Leppard either.
30 Seconds to Mars? I didn't know they were still around. I remember seeing that band back in 2003 at Lollapalooza. Jared Leto came out into the crowd and started to sing basically directly in front of me and my friends. We started cracking up in his face, it was pretty hilarious. Man, Lollapalooza sucked haha.
It's difficult to say what truly is metal as it's been changing constantly from decade to decade. I mean now you get bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest incorporated into classic rock compilations, and it seems that whatever was metal 30 years ago, becomes "hard rock" today. I've spoken to people so naive in this area that they think Iron Maiden are a rock band, presumably because they don't sound as brutal as the modern bands.
